The purpose of this study is to research on the development of Teacher’s book and lesson plans for “Online King Sejong Institute Cyber Korean Beginner Course” in 2020 and 2021. The research is proceeded based on the function of Teacher’s book and things to consider while writing lesson plans. In order to make the class more effective, the teacher’s book specified “chapter goals, chapter contents, lesson summery, and class procedures” of each chapters and detailed explanations on teacher’s example sentences along with the references as the class flows. Also the teacher’s book specifically mentioned which contents are related to which chapters in the students’ text book. In basic lesson plans, “class goals, student/teacher activities, necessary supplies or equipment, cautions and notes” are written along with the instructions for pair works through online Zoom classes. One example video is offered in order to reduce teachers’ difficulties during online classes. (Ewha Womans University)

Official Development Assistance (ODA) programs for Korean language education are significant in that they can suggest ways to share Korea education model with developing countries and foster prospective leaders who can enhance communication and cooperation between developing countries and Korea in the future. This study aims to draw implications for the systematic planning and implementation of ODA programs for Korean language education.
Statistical data of ODA programs for Korean language education between 2010 and 2020, which are published on the Korea ODA Integrated Information Portal, were reviewed and analyzed. The main implications drawn from the analysis of data are summarized as follows: There is a need to 1) review the scale of the ODA programs for Korean language education; 2) consider the balance between the sustainability of the programs and the continuity of the recipient country selection; 3) diversify the ODA program contents considering the status of Korean education in the recipient countries; 4) identify ways to provide human resources, technology resources, and material resources simultaneously, and 5) strategize the selection of recipient countries and the implementation of the programs. These results can be the basis for planning and implementing ODA programs for Korean language education in the future. (Sangmyung University)

The objective of this study is to explore the sense of identity of the female marriage immigrants in relation to their experience of participation in the “Korean Class for Nationality Acquisition Preparation Program”. This study aimed particularly to thoroughly examine through classroom observation and in-depth interviews what the female marriage immigrants' perception of the Korean language would be like and what changes occurred in their sense of identity through the participation experience in the “Korean Class for Nationality Acquisition Preparation Program”. This study found that the female marriage immigrants' active class participation and their purposes of Korean language learning were not just related to learning the language itself, but also to developing and reinforcing their sense of identity. First, the female marriage immigrants were aware that it is essential to understand the Korean language in settling down in Korea and Korean language can have economic value in combination with their native language. Moreover, they were found to actively invest their time and effort in learning the Korean language as a means of self-realization, which enhanced their learning motivation. Second, the active class participation of female marriage immigrants showed that their purpose for the program is to adapt to Korean society better, rather than to acquire nationality itself since they perceived themselves as a social and cultural subject who voluntarily migrated. In addition, their self-efficacy was improved through the interaction with surrounding people in this process. Third, the female marriage immigrants tried to establish their roles at home as wives and mothers by improving their knowledge and Korean language skills through the program. In particular, their sense of identity as a mother who can guide children's education became stronger. It can be seen that they strengthened their sense of identity positively, constantly negotiating for it through various experiences through the class participation process and learning contents. The purpose of this study is to utilize online collaborative education tools for the interaction between learner-instructor, learner-learner-instructor, and content-learner-instructor. Prior to this, as a survey result of instructors' perception of online collaboration education tools, it was found that the recognition and utilization of collaboration education tools were low. The use of online collaborative education tools was proposed according to the interaction target. In the instructor-learner interaction, the use of Jamboard, Mentimeter, QuizN, Google docs, and Flipgrid was presented. Through learner-learner-instructor interaction, the use of Google Slide, Gather.town, Ifland and Paddlet, QuizN, and Flipgrid was presented. The last, a plan to utilize Kahoot, QuizN and Ifland was proposed as a content-learner-instructor interaction. (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

The purpose of this paper is to present basic data on diphthong pronunciation education for Uzbek Korean learners by revealing the patterns and characteristics of diphthong pronunciation errors of Uzbek Korean learners. Items that need to be corrected or supplemented in diphthong education for Uzbek learners were selected as /ㅢ, ㅛ, wi, wE/. The pronunciation error rate of the /ㅢ/ was 96.3% when there was no preceding consonant at the beginning, which was significantly higher than the error rate of /ㅢ/ in other conditions. This was a result of the fact that the pronunciation form of /ㅢ/ was different according to the influence of the mother tongue and phonological conditions. It was suggested to correct the error by repeating the learning of the short vowel /ㅡ/ in the diphthong learning. The pronunciation error of /ㅛ/ was 40.7%, and it was found that the pronunciation error rate of male was higher than that of female. This was confirmed by the influence of the vowel /ㅗ/, and in the case of male Uzbek learners, the vowel space of /ㅗ/ overlapped with /ㅓ/ a lot, thus affecting /ㅛ/ pronunciation. Therefore, it was suggested that the pronunciation education of /ㅛ/ should also be modified through education on the short vowel /ㅗ/. Finally, the error rates of /wE/ and /wi/ were 53.1% and 19.8%, respectively. Writing reinforcement education and articulation education method that reduce the influence of mother tongue were suggested. (Jeonju University)

The purpose of this paper is to reveal the basic meaning and pragmatic meaning of ending word '-geodeun', and its politeness according to the context, and based on this, to propose education plan for foreigners of '-geodeun' in Korean education in the future. The ending word '-geodeun' has various pragmatic meanings, but it is difficult for foreigners to grasp all the meanings when learning Korean, and if we educate all the meanings of '-geodeun', it will also give foreign learners a lot of learning load, and they will encounter various confusions and difficulties in mastering the usage of '-geodeun'. Therefore, it is necessary to set a basic meaning of '-geodeun'. Only after mastering the basic meaning can the learner better grasp the various pragmatic meanings of '-geodeun'. In addition, the ending word '-geodeun' as a colloquial suffix has been discussed as a marker of politeness. This article believes that '-geodeun' itself does not have the function of “politeness”, and '-geodeun' will shows different degrees of politeness according to the context and the comparison with other endings. 전 세계적으로 한류 콘텐츠의 인가가 증가하면서 한국어 교육 분야에서 한국어 콘텐츠를 이용한 한국어와 한국 문화 교육 방안이 개발되어 왔다. 그러나 대부분의 연구가 아시아 국가의 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 하였으며 한국어와 한국 문화 교육 방안에 대한 학습자들의 반응을 조사하지 않았다. 이에 이 연구에서는 한류 콘텐츠를 이용하여 미국의 한국어 학습자를 대상로 한 한국어와 한국 문화 수업 방안을 마련하고자 하였다. 특히 이 연구에서는 내용 중심 교수법을 기반으로 하여 한국 대중가요와 게임을 활용한 수업 방안을 개발하였다. 그리고 아홉 명의 참가자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하여 한류 콘텐츠를 이용한 한국어와 한국 문화 수업에 대한 의견을 알아보았다. 그 결과 한류 콘텐츠를 이용한 한국어와 한국 문화 수업이 한국어 학습자에게 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 반면 한국어와 한국 문화 교육의 질을 향상시키기 위한 개선 사항이 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 한국어 수업에서 활용될 수 있는 학습 모형을 제시하였다. 후속 연구로 다른 종류의 한류 콘텐츠를 활용한 한국어 수업과 추가적인 학습 자료의 개발 그리고 이 연구에서 제시한 한국어와 한국 문화 교육 방안의 효과성에 대한 입증이 필요하다. With the growing popularity of Hallyu content across the globe, Korean language and cultural teaching methods using Hallyu content were developed in the areas of Korean language education while most studies targeted Korean language learners in Asian countries and did not investigate the reactions of Korean language learners to the teaching methods. Accordingly, the study aimed to propose a teaching method for Korean language and cultural lessons using Hallyu content, targeting Korean language learners in the United States. In particular, the study developed a teaching method for Korean language and cultural lessons with K-pop and K-games based on content-based instruction (CBI). Additionally, in-depth interviews with nine participants were conducted concerning opinions and suggestions for Korean language and cultural lessons with Hallyu content. The results of the in-depth interviews showed that Korean language and cultural lessons using Hallyu content positively affected Korean language learners, although some improvements were needed in the quality of Korean language and cultural education. Finally, an instructional model was suggested for use in Korean classes. Future research is necessary for the development of Korean lessons with other types of content, additional teaching materials, and to prove the effectiveness of the teaching method. This study aims to present a case study of Korean Writing Education using online messenger for Chinese intermediate learners. Communication competence means how properly a language can be used in the context in which it is used. It also points to a genre-based teaching approach which emphasizes the socio-cultural situation and context and values the efficient communication within the discourse community. Meanwhile, language education using digital technology which can handle and share various information is becoming increasingly common. In particular, WeChat, which has the largest number of users in China, is also desirable to use it as a learning space. Therefore, this study attempted to present a case study Korean Writing Education based on genre-based teaching approach using WeChat for 15 college students from T University in China. The instructional model was presented by referring to and reconstructing Feez(1998) and Park Eun-sun(2014) and dividing it into four stages: context setting, model text analysis, co-construction, and independent composition. As a result, the students showed a satisfactory response overall but there were also negative opinions such as lack of time and low participation of students in the evaluation. Therefore, it is hoped that an efficient teaching method will be prepared to overcome these limitations in the future. (Kyunghee University)

This study aims to investigate if native Korean speakers' attitudes and perception would be affected by how naturally and fluently Korean learners speak. If so, how much are these two correlated. To investigate this, 21 of Korean L2 learners' speaking recordings were collected and assessed for verbal fluency, 40 of Korean native speakers participated questionnaire which is developed to measure their language attitudes. The results show that Korean L2 learners' verbal fluency and native Koran speakers' language attitudes are correlated. All five elements of verbal fluency(vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, speech rate, suprasegmental phoneme) are correlated with all four fields of language attitudes. Learner's vocabulary and grammar affect language attitudes overall. Speech rate(speed of speaking, stuttering, repetition, and long pause) affects superiority and reliability more than other fields of language attitudes. And Suprasegmental phoneme(intonation, accent and rhythm) affects social attractiveness more than other fields of language attitudes. (Kyunghee University)

The purpose of this study is to review the developmental process of bilingualism in theory or viewpoint in general and examine the activity of the Korean Society of Bilingualism. In this paper bilingual education is suggested as a better educational support for the multicultural students in Korea. That is, bilingual education is very good educational model for them not only in terms of transitional bilingual education level, but also maintenance and additive or enrichment type of bilingual education. The third type of bilingual education, additive bilingual education is valid not only for the minority students, but also beneficial to the majority Korean students. At present the number of multicultural students are increasing up to 7.8% yearly, despite total number of students are decreasing in Korean schools. Various kinds of multicultural students are coming in Korean Society and Korean government has obligations to support and lead them to settle down smoothly and well going to higher level of schools and finally to achieve their dreams or goals.
Since The Korean society of Bilingualism has established 40 years ago, Sep. 26, 1981, the Society has been developed tremendously not only in number of members but also in quality of research. The “Bilingual Research” has been published four times a year (No 86 at present) and has been nominated as a 'Good journal' by the Korean Academic Foundation and became one of the best academic journals in humanities. Yet a few points of revisions or improvements are discussed in this paper. (Korea University)

This paper is a study on the prospects and challenges of Korean language education in the untact(non-face-to-face) era. The COVID-19 pandemic has boosted untact(non-face-to-face) online education. In the future, various types of combined curriculums will be developed and attempted in the field of Korean language education, taking advantage of offline and online education. In addition, along with the development of the edu-tech industry, Korean language education will also achieve great qualitative growth. In particular, the global spread of Korean language and Korean culture (Korean Wave) should be used as an opportunity for Korean language education to be revitalized. In order to achieve this, it is important to clearly recognize the 'King Sejong Institute' brand as a starting point for Korean education. Therefore, the establishment of King Sejong Institute and the dispatch of professional teachers should be continued, and a bold investment in the online King Sejong Institute should be made to overcome the limitations of the establishment of King Sejong Institute. It is necessary to strengthen the quality of Korean teachers and revitalize online platforms. This study analyzed the attitudes, expectations and Awareness for online Korean language education for teachers and learners who participated in the online King Sejong Institute curriculum. As a result of the survey, teachers preferred offline education to online education and had lower attitudes and expectations for online Korean education than learners. Unlike teachers, learners showed no difference in satisfaction between online and offline education, and their attitudes and expectations toward online education were also high. It was found that well-prepared online classes can be satisfactory to learners through the learners' high attitudes and expectations for online Korean education. In addition, it was confirmed that online education, like offline education, satisfies learners by operating an appropriate curriculum and providing high-quality materials, and can sufficiently contribute to the improvement of learners' language ability. It was found that teachers, unlike learners, had difficulties in conducting online education and did not have much confidence in the effectiveness of education. In particular, they complained of a lot of anxiety and difficulty about the unfamiliar teaching method, which is interpreted as reflecting the attitude of teachers who are familiar with real-time education. From this point of view, it can be seen that it is most important to provide teachers with the ability to utilize online teaching tools and implement various online teaching and learning in order to conduct online Korean language education. If appropriate teacher education for online education, provision of educational materials, and system support are provided, it is expected that teachers' attitudes and awareness of online education will also increase. This study dealt with the methodology and contents of the curriculum design of “Cyber Korean Beginner Course”, a beginner textbook of “Online King Sejong Institute” developed in 2019, as needed to prepare a plan to revitalize the online curriculum of Sejong Institute. Based on the judgment that it is necessary to provide online learning-only curriculum and lecture contents by preparing a new online curriculum so that learners around the world can achieve offline academic achievement beyond time and space, the international Korean standard curriculum was reorganized in connection with topics and language skills, vocabulary, grammar/expression, and culture. < Cyber Korean > content was developed by the Sejong Institute Foundation in 2019 and launched in 2020 with the goal of developing content based on a new online curriculum to meet the continuous increase of online learners and interactive needs. Currently, Online Sejong Institute is equipped with beginner 1, 2, intermediate 1, and 2 curriculum for < Cyber Korean >, and supports multilingual lectures and various curriculum, including self-learning courses, which are rapidly expanding. The development of < Cyber Korean > content was accompanied by a variety of competencies from curriculum design to content writing, course design and material development, making video lectures and work for localization. This paper presents the significance of the development of < Cyber Korean > content, and examines the development principles and examples of unit composition, focusing on beginner content. The purpose of this study is to codify the process of developing and applying theoretical approaches and principles made to develop online-based Korean language curriculum for overseas Korean learners. Through this, it was intended to suggest from what perspective the curriculum for learners learning Korean online abroad should be developed. To this end, this study describes the development procedure of the online Sejong Institute Korean curriculum. This study analyzed the theories of micro-learning and blended learning, which are the theoretical basis of the online Sejong Institute curriculum, and explained how these theories were actually implemented when developing the curriculum. The significance of this study can be found in that it suggested in what direction overseas Korean language education should be conducted online and how the curriculum and educational contents should be developed for this. The purpose of this study is to examine the principles and practices of intermediate Korean VOD in Online King Sejong Institute. To accomplish this, what is investigated are the goals and contents of the Korean intermediate curriculum and textbooks, the main points of blended learning and micro learning required for VOD development, the sense of teaching presence and cognitive presence to be considered in the development of VOD, and the composition and characteristics of the platform. With above investigations, the instructional unit of the VOD was presented by dividing it into the language knowledge sections such as vocabulary and grammar, the language comprehension sections such as reading and listening, the language expression sections such as speaking and writing, and introduction and finishing parts of the unit. The purpose of this study is to propose a mid-to long-term development plan for the online King Sejong Institute. To this end, the current status of educational institutions by country was investigated to spread their own languages abroad and analyzed the online education platform. In addition, the results of the pilot operation of the online King Sejong Institute were analyzed. Through this, the operation strategy and mid-to long-term development plan of the online King Sejong Institute were proposed.
First, the operation strategy of the online King Sejong Institute was proposed. The curriculum of the online King Sejong Institute was divided into a basic curriculum and a special curriculum, and various programs of each curriculum were proposed. In addition, curriculum can be operated in connection with domestic and foreign King Sejong Institute, overseas Korean language education institution, university language education institution, domestic and foreign university, and Korean company. It will also be possible to generate profits through the basic curriculum and special curriculum of King Sejong Institute online.
In addition, detailed tasks were set according to the development stage of the online King Sejong Institute, and they were divided into five categories, focusing on the core elements of the development of the online King Sejong Institute. Plans were established for each development stage in the areas of instruction, teaching and learning environment, teaching and learning support, operation and management system. 9온라인 세종학당의 운영 현황 분석 연구 -2020년 시범 운영 사업을 중심으로-

The purpose of this study was to deduce implications for the operation status of Online King Sejong Institute based on the analysis and result of the Pilot Project for Beginner's Level. First, in terms of operational performance, the number of student registration was 3.5 times more than the target number and courses are expanded to Introduction Cyber Korean Courses in addition to the beginner's courses. It also helped improve Korean language teachers' online teaching skills.
Based on the results of the analysis of the operation status, the implications related to teachers, students, curriculum and educational environment are as follows. First, regarding teachers, 1) For the selection of teachers, the experience of online education should be considered in addition to Korean language education experience. 2) Setting up the LMS classrooms is not part of the teacher's duties. 3) As the teacher's interaction time and task feedback time increase per the levels of classes, it is necessary to consider the burden of work for teachers by levels. Second, regarding students, 1) Multilingual support should be provided on the Online King Sejong Institute platform for student registration. 2) For mass student registration, there should be sufficient guidance through local SNS and through the person in charge of the collaborative agency for students to login and attend classes smoothly. 3) For online blended course, student's curriculum registration should be separated by language and region. 4) It is necessary to improve the completion rate of learners. Third, regarding curriculum, 1) Various courses were operated such as Cyber Korean Courses, Collaboration e-Class, King Sejong Institute e-Class. In particular, many problems were identified while operating Cyber Korean Courses and Collaboration e-Classes recruiting general learners. 2) It was confirmed that students were provided convenience by free PDF teaching material in addition to online contents. Lastly, regarding the educational environment, 1) Since there are many regions with insufficient network, contents and LMS should be lighter for easier access. 2) The learning process such as report submission and quiz should be easily accessible through smart phones for user convenience. The purpose of this study is to research on the development of Teacher's book and lesson plans for “Online King Sejong Institute Cyber Korean Beginner Course” in 2020 and 2021. The research is proceeded based on the function of Teacher's book and things to consider while writing lesson plans. In order to make the class more effective, the teacher's book specified “chapter goals, chapter contents, lesson summery, and class procedures” of each chapters and detailed explanations on teacher's example sentences along with the references as the class flows. Also the teacher's book specifically mentioned which contents are related to which chapters in the students' text book. In basic lesson plans, “class goals, student/teacher activities, necessary supplies or equipment, cautions and notes” are written along with the instructions for pair works through online Zoom classes. One example video is offered in order to reduce teachers' difficulties during online classes. (Ewha Womans University)
