The present study aims to analyze how deep learning judges nativelikeness in the corpus of native Korean speakers and Korean learners. To this end, a deep learning model that classifies sentences of native Korean speakers and Korean learners was built, and the criteria for determining nativelikeness between deep learning and humans were compared and analyzed in terms of error analysis. As a result of the analysis, the accuracy of the deep learning model built in this study was found to be 91%, which means that 91 sentences out of 100 sentences were accurately classified whether they were written by the native speaker or by the learner. In addition, since the error annotation result of the learner corpus is a projected result of human judgment of nativelikeness, the similarities and differences of the criteria for determining nativelikeness were described in detail by comparing it with the test data verification result of deep learning. The results of this study will be an important basis for clarifying what the nativelikeness of native Korean speakers is and for objectively judging the nativelikeness of the language produced by Korean learners.(Yonsei University)

A Korean language curriculum for local primary, middle, and secondary schools abroad needs be developed with regard to its consistency with the local foreign languages curricula, and also the distinct characteristics of Korean education targeted at teenagers. The content structure and skills of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment) applied by the Korean Language Curriculum differs greatly with the 'Standard Curriculum for Korean Language'. CEFR defines four large categories, i.e. communicative language activities and strategies, plurilingual and pluricultural competence, communicative language competences, and signing competences. This paper examines defining the concept of reception categories and their characteristics with concentration on 'reception' as one of the subcategories of the CEFR's communicative language activities and strategies used by the Korean Language Curriculum. The CEFR's definition of the concept of 'reception' is different from the concept of language skills of 'listening' and 'reading' used by the 'Standard Curriculum for Korean Language'. The concept of 'reception' used in the CEFR has no dichotomy of 'listening' and 'reading', but it rather describes detailed activities, such as oral comprehension activities, reading comprehension activities, and audio-visual comprehension activities, all of which comprise reception activities. In the development of the Korean Language Curriculum, we used the CEFR's concept of reception categories to prepare can-do statements. In addition, we also constructed can-do statements that consider teenagers being the agent of learning using content appropriate for their level. The prominent characteristics of these reception categories are not only understanding as a member of a live audience, understanding announcements and instructions, and understanding audio media and recording, but also understanding conversation between other people that is formed using oral comprehension activities. In order to promote the Korean language education, it is necessary to develop a Korean language curriculum that is suitable for the curriculum system of each overseas country and to consider the needs of overseas learners. High-quality Korean language education can be provided for abroad middle and secondary school learners when a systematic curriculum is established. In addition, customized curriculum and textbooks can be developed in line with the effective foreign language education policy. The purpose of this study is to show the features and structure of the production category that makes up a part of the Korean language curriculum for abroad middle and secondary school learners. In order to achieve this purpose, first of all, we will look at the Korean language curriculum for abroad middle and secondary schools. In the following, communicative language activities which are reception, production, interaction and mediation and their strategies will be generally introduced. Then, we will discuss a production category. More precisely, the definition and features of production and the structure and contents of production will be discussed in detail. This study aims to discuss the establishment rationale and utilization of “mediation,” which is the sub-domain of the curriculum, in < The Curriculum of Korean as a Foreign Language for Primary and Secondary Schools Overseas (2021) >. To this end, we first extended the concept of “mediation” from a limited concept of linguistic activity that helps third-party communication as direct communication is not possible in “relational mediation” that establishes and manages interpersonal relationships and a “cognitive mediation” that enables access to knowledge and concepts. By expanding the concept of mediation in this way, mediation was divided into mediation activities and mediation strategies to examine each subtype and concept. Based on these discussions, the rationale for introducing the domain of mediation in Korean language education was the need to promote communication between Korean users and learners' peer groups, attitudes and speech tone, and multimedia utilization in education. And lastly, for the utilization of “mediation” in Korean language education, the necessity of the validation of descriptors, development of teaching/learning materials, and development of evaluation tools such as self-assessment grids was suggested (Seoul National University, Gyeongin National University of Education, Seoul National University, Busan University of Foreign Studies)

This study examines the concept of plurilingual and pluricultural competence presented by the CEFR(2018) and proposes application methods in Korean language education. In Korean language education, learners can improve their competence to target language and culture by understanding that learners have various languages and cultural backgrounds and utilizing such resources and experiences. To this end, the understanding and acceptance of culture can be facilitated by establishing a pluricultural repertoire. The target language can be learned by utilizing various language resources through plurilingual understanding of plurilingualism. Furthermore, by building a plurilingual repertoire, it is possible to take advantage of the language resources that learners have to take the initiative in language learning. By applying this concept, a teaching-learning method can be proposed so that learners can utilize each other's language and cultural resources in professor learning, which used only Korean, the target language in Korean education. The purpose of this study is to introduce the development of sociolinguistic and pragmatic competences of the Korean Curriculum for elementary and secondary schools overseas. The sociolinguistic competences and the Pragmatic Competences which had not been emphasized, were set as one category of language Competences, and developed to reveal the importance of the sociolinguistic and the Pragmatic competences in the curriculum. The sociolinguistic competences refer to the ability to use language properly socially, and the Pragmatic competences refer to the ability to use language, including discourse Competences. The sociolinguistic competences deal with sociolinguistic appropriateness, including politeness, registers, and socio-cultural implications, etc.. The pragmatic competences were composed of flexibility, turn taking, thematic development, coherence and cohesion, and fluency to present the curriculum. Unlike the existing curriculum, this curriculum is meaningful in that it focuses on language use, including the sociolinguistic competences and the pragmatic competences in the curriculum, and presents detailed competence descriptions. In addition, the curriculum will be differentiated in that it has increased applicability in the field by specifically presenting the situation of discourse suitable for Korean learners in elementary and secondary courses abroad and including Korean expressions that can be treated as educational contents. This study examined the authenticity of the listening and activity types of listening tasks in Korean listening for academic purposes. In doing so, it aimed to investigate and analyse the authenticity of the discourse in the listening textbooks and the activity types of listening tasks for academic Korean learners. Through analysis and reflection, I discuss important issues for the future development of listening materials. The results of the analysis confirm the progress of the textbooks. However, it is necessary to diversify the genres of the discourse, which were recorded using various media. I also discuss the broadening of the scope for more practical listening. Regarding the listening task activities in the textbooks, I found that the tasks were biased toward literal comprehension listening, intensive listening and selective listening. Therefore, I suggest that the inferential listening tasks and interactive listening activities should be further reflected in the textbooks. (Seoul National University)

T+his study aims to examine learners' perceptions through fluency evaluations among learners in academic-purpose Korean debating classes. For that, the discussion of 31 advanced learners was conducted fluency evaluations by fellow learners, and the debaters' utterances were transcribed and analyzed. The analysis results are as follows. First, regression analysis of factors that determine a debater's fluency shows that the variable that most influences the debater's fluency judgment is the frequency of use of the argument, and the proportion of non-fluent utterances is somewhat less influential than the frequency of use of the argument. Second, fellow learners judged debaters with low rates of non-fluent utterances to be linguistically fluent. This is different from previous research results that native language speakers judge foreign learners' speaking fluency by their speaking speed. Third, the factor that influenced the debater's judgment of content fluency was the frequency of use of the argument. Learners tend to perceive debaters who use arguments highly as fluent debaters. Fluent discussion speaking requires training for learners' ability to construct arguments, as in conventional discussions, and also involves speaking practice to reduce non-fluent speech. This study is valuable as a learner-focused study in that debating classes are paramount, and is significant in that they have discussed learners' fluency in a different direction from the study of learners' fluency judgments from the native language speaker's perspective. The purpose of this study is to examine the Korean language education curriculum for foreigners in North Korea. We focused on interviews with Chinese international students who participated in the 'Chosun Exchange Scholarship Program' from April to October 2016 at Kim Il-sung University. To this end, two written interviews and three in-depth interviews were conducted to secure the validity and reliability of the study. Through interviews, it was found that in 2016, a total of 35 foreigners received Korean language education at Kim Il-sung University. In addition, it was found that the Korean language education curriculum for foreigners in North Korea is divided into 'Korean language education as a foreign language' and 'general Korean language education'. Compared to the Korean language curriculum as a foreign language, it was found that the general Korean language education curriculum had about two hours more class time per week and the number of subjects was also four more. Also, the textbooks used in the general Korean language education curriculum were different from the textbooks in the Korean language curriculum as a foreign language. However, the observation activities were carried out in the same way as the Korean language curriculum as a foreign language, and through this, the system propaganda effect was being promoted. Lectures were mainly centered on teachers, and achievement evaluation was conducted once at the end of the term. The interviewer evaluated that this experience in North Korea had a positive influence on interviewer's career choice. (Yonsei University)

This study was intended to examine the educational utility and utilization of new media in the digital environment, paying attention to the popular culture production and communication methods of < Mr. Sunshine >.
According to this goal, linguistic informatics as a quantitative study and text interpretative method as a qualitative study were applied to verify the educational utility of < Mr. Sunshine > as a media text and to present a specific classroom teaching model based on this data.
The Korean value culture education plan considering the learner characteristics of Koreans, foreigners, and overseas Koreans was constructed as a class model and data. This can be seen that there is a continuous need for research on ways to present interpretation and critique of media content in the field of teaching and learning and to use it educationally. This paper tries to get the foreign students studying at Korean universities to understand Korean 'Han(恨)' effectively for the intercultural sympathy and communication. The emotion of Korean Han is very important cultural element which is necessary to understand Korean. This paper selects the Korean series of novel (『남도사람』) that show the singularity of Korean Han. It also intends to make foreign students read the novel, write the book report, and have discussions of Han with other students. In the reading process, foreign students try to understand the novel's theme, plot, and conflict of characters. In the writing process, they try to understand deeply the characteristics of Han in the course of presenting their idea and feeling about events of the novel. Especially in the discussion process, they can modify and make up for their former cognition and feeling about Han through feedback process. It is said that foreign students are able to make sense that Korean Han is the emotion of the anger, resentment, sorrow, as well as forgiveness, sublimation generating from the harmony with nature in this paper. The purpose of this study is to examine the implications of the cultural mediation experience of the married migrant women instructors for multicultural understanding. They played an important role as a medium for social integration and how it influenced their perception of their own culture and understanding of Korean culture. In order to achieve the research goal, 11 multicultural instructors were conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews by interview guides. In order to understand their living experiences and derive meaning from each case, they proceeded with qualitative case studies. They felt rewarding and fulfilling their mission to promote their culture and history through cultural mediation experience. They gained pride and patriotism in their own cultures and learned to accept and respect other cultures. And based on experience and understanding, they were able to expand their understanding of Korea and Korean culture. Systematic cultural education based on various experiences and cultural sensitivity should be strengthened to actively serve as a cultural intermediary for marriage migrant women's multicultural concerns.(Inha University)

The refugees leave their homeland for survival or to improve quality of life and live to adapt to the new environment, moving to other countries. This study aims to explore the role of religion as refugees who have moved to Korea adapt to Korean society. The study conducted in-depth interviews with 10 refugees in Korea and analyzed the role of religion in the process of social adjustment by dividing it into social, emotional and religious roles. As a result, first of all, religion was in charge of various social functions. First of all, they were helped to adapt to Korean society, Korean language education, and children's education, and they got information about employment through religious institutions. Second, I was living an emotionally stable life through religion. They recognized that they had a bond through the community, lived a comfortable and stable life psychologically, or were not ignored as women through religion. Third, they pursued its own role in religion. Regardless of religious institutions, they were keeping their religion in their own way and was able to understand others and recognize diversity through religious differences. In particular, religious institutions were in charge of the role of systems for managing refugees. As such, religion has had a great influence on the refugees adaptation to Korean society and has helped them settle down in a stable manner.(Inha University)

This study examined the effects of a writing class that applied problem-based learning (PBL) on International Undergraduate Students' sense of efficacy in writing and their perception of the class. Using 50 foreign students fluent in Korean as subjects, a PBL writing class was implemented for 11 weeks. A pretest of the writing efficacy was carried out before starting the PBL. After completing the class, a post test and survey of the students' perception of PBL were conducted. To analyze the effectiveness of PBL on writing efficacy, a paired t-test was performed on the pretest and post test scores. The main perceptions of PBL were extracted through content analysis. First, our results show that the overall writing efficacy and all sub-factors, including general-writing, before-writing, during-writing, and after-writing efficacy, showed a statistically significant increase. The finding implies that the PBL-based writing class had a positive impact on the foreign students' writing efficacy. Second, as the result of content analysis, the students perceived the class improved communication skills in Korean and the ability to collaborate, which the participants could apply in other classes. At the same time, the students believed that the class needed to be improved enhancing students participation. This paper is meaningful as it proved that a PBL-based writing class positively affects foreign students' writing efficacy and that the students have a positive perception about the class.(Korea University)

This study set out to propose new alternatives for online writing education in intermediate Korean level by incorporating flipped learning into an experiment on writing education for foreign learners and testing its effects on the improvement of their writing abilities. The subjects were divided into the experiment group, in which flipped learning was applied, and the control group, which did not apply flipped learning. Both groups received four lessons on writing under No. 53 on TOPIK II. Expert evaluators scored their writing before and after the lessons, and their work was compared and analyzed on average scores. The analysis results of the experiment show that the experiment group made a considerable increase in their average writing scores from 18.78 before the experiment to 25.25 after the experiment at the significance probability of .000002(p<.05), which leads to the conclusion that there were significant effects on their writing.(Kyung Hee University)

The purpose of this study is to establish a methodology for systematic literature education in intercultural education with defining the meaning of literary education in intercultural education. Also the standard selection of literary works in intercultural education with mutinational oral literature was discussed and then educational contents and application plans with the selected literray work were suggested. In this study, the methodology based on mutinational oral literature such as folktale, proverbs and folk beliefs was considered because the unique literature of each ethnic group along with a universal culture is dissolved together in multinational oral literature. Also there are extensive oral literary works which have been studied through previous research projects. This researcher has investigated the multinational oral literature of immigrants residing in Korea, and 1,493 multinational oral literature have been collected. Hence multinational oral literature is supposed to be most effective and practical research to establish a literary education methodology in intercultural education.To establish the methodology, the selection criteria, educational contents and application plans of literature were discussed.
The criteria for selecting literary works is whether they have a common subject, theme and narrative. After selecting literary works, each literary work was compared. Through comparison of selected works, the culture of one's own country is reminded and other cultures are studied. For effective education to select the content, each country's value culture, natural culture, living culture and historical culture were considered. Through the educational contents, students will learn empathy and respect for other cultures.The criteria for selection of literatures, educational content and application plan established in this study will be a methodology of literature education that can be applied not only to multinational oral literature, but also to other literature education for intercultural education.(INHA University)

The study aims to focus on 'popular culture' which has been discussed in terms of culture contents along with the terms 'hallyu' and 'K-culture', to see how to view popular culture in Korean culture education and how to apply it educationally. To this end, we first explored the terms of 'popular culture', 'Korean Wave contents', and 'K-culture'. As a result, we classified Korean popular culture as a culture produced in Korea that is easily and conveniently enjoyed by the public, Korean Wave contents as a Korean cultural element that is drawing attention from foreign countries, and K-culture as a new Korean Wave, which has been discussed in terms of 'diversification' since Hallyu 3.0. Then, we suggested an approach to popular culture in terms of Korean culture education. This paper argues that if popular culture is viewed as giving its audience cultural experience through mass media-based public communication, it should be applied to education in consideration of the three attributes of ① everydayness and universality, ② connectivity and expansion, ③ locality and interculturality.(Semyung UniversityㆍKookmin University)

The present study aims to analyze how deep learning judges nativelikeness in the corpus of native Korean speakers and Korean learners. To this end, a deep learning model that classifies sentences of native Korean speakers and Korean learners was built, and the criteria for determining nativelikeness between deep learning and humans were compared and analyzed in terms of error analysis. As a result of the analysis, the accuracy of the deep learning model built in this study was found to be 91%, which means that 91 sentences out of 100 sentences were accurately classified whether they were written by the native speaker or by the learner. In addition, since the error annotation result of the learner corpus is a projected result of human judgment of nativelikeness, the similarities and differences of the criteria for determining nativelikeness were described in detail by comparing it with the test data verification result of deep learning. The results of this study will be an important basis for clarifying what the nativelikeness of native Korean speakers is and for objectively judging the nativelikeness of the language produced by Korean learners.(Yonsei University)

The punctuation mark is an indispensable element in a sentence of Chinese and Korean. That there is a punctuation mark or not, or where it is, can create a different meaning and we can observe how important it is in a sentence. If the punctuation mark is in the proper position, the meaning of the sentence will be clear. If not, the sentence will be in low readability and even be ambiguous. However, as of now, there is only a few research on punctuation marks, especially in the translation field, which has not been paid enough attention. There are some punctuation marks with similar functions in the Chinese and Korean sentences. If the punctuation marks are possible to be translated directly and automatically, it will lead to improper use and translation. The paper is committed to studying the practical application of punctuation marks and finding out the difference between Chinese and Korean punctuation marks, which will be applied in translation to improve the quality of the Translated Texts.(Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

This paper aims to offer an overview of the development process and current issues of Korean language education in South-East Asian Countries mainly in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. And it also suggests ways to develop Korean language education in those countries. This paper deals with the features of Korean language education in those countries and analyzes the environments that influenced it later. And it also discusses basic elements and expertise for the development of Korean language education fields. At this point, South-East Asia is one of the areas where Korean language education is developing rapidly. The scale of education is growing and the groups of learners are diversifying. As a result, the mainstream of Korean language education has changed from universities toward public education and middle and high schools. However, various efforts are needed for further development. Above all, the current environment should be utilized to show the Korean language as a beneficial language for Korean learners. And it is necessary to expand the Korean language education infrastructure and expertise. The government and the Korean language education community should cooperate to find various ways to develop Korean language education.(Sangmyung University)

This study aims to establish a connection as one of the grammatical systems of Korean Education as a Foreign Language. In the meantime, research and education have focused on sentence access and access to Korean language. Therefore, the connection of words and phrases was relatively neglected. Due to such a tendency, the contents of access to grammar and textbooks used in Korean language education were not reflected well. Therefore, this discussion analyzed how access is reflected in grammar books and Korean textbooks that have been used in Korean language education. It also argued that it is necessary to reflect the existing educational system by examining the characteristics of grammar categories that are responsible for the function of access in Korean. Finally, a new grammar system of Korean Education was proposed as an alternative that could supplement the existing grammar system, including access. Chapter 2 analyzed existing grammar and textbooks, Chapter 3 analyzed the aspects of the Korean access function category, and Chapter 4 presented alternatives to supplement the existing frame. Chapter 5 presents the deficiencies in this discussion regarding access and further advances in access discussion. (National Institute of Korean Language)
