본 연구는 범어사 입지와 공간구성에 반영된 특징적인 모습을 풍수적 관점에서 살펴보고자 한다. 특히 형세적 관점에 중점을 두고자하며, 선찰대본산이라는 특징 속에는 어떤 모습으로 승화·발전되고 있는지 밝혀보고자 한다. 이를 위해 현재의 범어사를 기준으로 여러 풍수문헌자료와 현장조사를 통해 살펴본다. 범어사는 백두대간의 가장 끝부분을 차지한 지기(地氣) 왕성한 입지를 통해 풍수적 특징을 실천하였다. 특히, 지기가 가장 왕성하게 응결한 혈처에 금어선원을 배치함으로써, 한국 불교선종의 수사찰(首寺刹)의 지위를 차지하는 모습이다. 범어사의 공간구성은 금정산의 산세에 따라 상단과 중단 그리고 하단으로 구성되었다. 상단은 불단으로, 중단은 보살단 혹은 신중단으로, 하단은 신중단과 영단으로 구분하지만, 불가의 삼보사상과 유가의 삼합사상 그리고 풍수의 삼세 심혈법과 절묘하게 어우러지는 모습이다. 따라서 범어사는 불교와 풍수적 특징이 절묘한 조화를 통해 가장 합리적인 입지선정과 공간구성을 이룬 대표적 사례라 할 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the features of location and space organization in Beomeosa Temple from the Feng shui point of view. Especially, topographic shape conditions is focused on. And as the head temple of Zen what features inhere in it. To do so, relative Feng shui literature and field survey has been executed with present Beomeosa Temple as the center. Beomeosa Temple is located on the utmost edge of the Baekdoodaegan(白頭大幹) which shows the Feng shui features of vigorous energy vaporing of earth. Especially, Seonwon Training Center of the temple has been located just on the acupuncture point on that the most powerful energy of the earth is condensed. This shows the center’s high position in Korean Zen Buddhism. Space organization of Beomeosa Temple is composed with three areas of top, middle and bottom by height level of mountain. Top area is Buddist altar(佛壇) and middle area is Bosal-dhan(菩薩壇) or Shinjung-dhan(神衆壇). And bottom area is Shinjung-dhan and Ryeong-dhan(靈壇). This reflects the idea of three treasures in Buddhism and the idea of union of heaven, earth and man in Confucianism. And Samseshimhyeolbeop(三勢尋穴法) in Feng shui is also cognized. Therefore, Beomeosa Temple is a representative one to show the most rational location selection and space organization which has been harmonized with the features between Buddhism and Feng shui.
