Objectives: This study was carried out to investigate neuro-protective effects of Whangryunheadoc-tang Gami-bang(Huanglianjiedu-Tang JiaWei-Fang), which is consisted of Whangryunheadoc-tang(Huanglianjiedu-Tang), Uwhangchungsim-huan (Niuhuangqingxin-yuan), and other neuro-protective herbs. Methods: A 3-week longitudinal evaluation of a herbal formula in 13 acute stage cerebral infarction patient with carotid artery stenosis. Degree of carotid artery stenosis was measured using carotid vascular doppler(CVD). Total cholesterol, total lipid, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol were measured before and after medication. For evaluating functional improvement, NIHSS and MBI were measured. Results: There was significant improvement of carotid vascular stenosis and lipid profile(LDL, HDL) in sample group. And there wewe significant functional improvement by NIHSS and MBI in each group, but when comparing two group, no statistically significant difference was found. Conclusions: Based on this results, Whangryunheadoc-tang Gami-bang (Huanglianjiedu-Tang JiaWei-Fang) has neuro-protective effect and anti- hyperlipidemic effect.
