순종황제는 대한제국의 마지막 황제이다. 순종의 황제 즉위는 일제의 강압에 의한 고종황제 강제 퇴위로 인해 이행되었다. 순종의 황태자의 신분으로 대리청정을 시작했다는 공식적인 기록은 1907년 7월 19일이다. 그리고 순종황제 즉위식은 그로부터 40여일이 지나 1907년 8월 27일에 거행되었다. 순종황제 즉위식은 돈덕전에서 오전 9시 30분에 시작되었다. 순종은 즉위식에 참석하기 전에 환구단에 고유제를 올리지 않았다. 그대신 일본의 국서를 받았다. 순종황제 즉위식에서는 축하문 낭독이 핵심 절차였다. 총리대신 이완용, 통감 대리 장곡천대장, 영사 대표 방카르트가 축하글을 읽었다. 즉위식장에 참석한 이들은 서구식 대례복이나 후록코트를 착용한 채 몸을 공손하게 숙이는 서양식 인사법으로 사배례(四拜禮)를 대신하였다. 순종황제 즉위식에는 음악이 적극적으로 사용되기도 하였다. 전통 악대인 전정궁가와 서양식 군악대가 모두 등장하였다는 점이 특징이다. 전자는 순종황제가 등퇴장 할 때와 참석자들이 인사할 때 전통음악을 연주하였다. 구체적인 레파토리는 여민락만, 여민락령, 낙양춘으로 추정된다. 군악대는 에케르트가 서양음악 어법으로 작곡한 대한제국 애국가를 연주하였다. 순종황제 즉위식이 끝난 후 각계에서 기념행사가 펼쳐지기도 하였다. 돈덕전 식당에서는 입식(立食)의 형태로 축하 파티를 하였다. 특히 일진회는 독립관에서 매우 성대한 경축회를 벌여 당시 유행하던 악(樂)·가(歌)·무(舞)·희(戱) 일체를 감상하며 즐거워했다.

Emperor Sunjong 純宗皇帝 is the last emperor of the Imperial Korea. The coronation of King Sunjong as emperor was held owing to the forced abdication of Emperor Kojong 高宗皇帝. The official record date that Sunjong began his regency as the crown prince was July 19, 1907. Also, the coronation of Emperor Sunjong was held on August 27, 1907 which was 40 days after the beginning of his regency. The coronation of Emperor Sungjong began at 9:30 in the morning at Tondokchon 惇德殿. Before his participation in the coronation, Sunjong did not hold Koyuje 告由祭 at Hwan`gudan ?丘壇. Instead, he received the credentials of Japan. In his coronation, the reading of a congratulatory address was the key procedure. Prime Minister Yi Wan-yong 李完用, Resident- General Deputy Chang Kok-ch`on 長谷川, and the consular representative Bankart read the congratulatory address. Those who gathered in the place of the coronation replaced a quadruple greeting manner with a western style greeting of bowing their upper body politely while wearing western style court dress or frock coats. In his coronation, music was actively introduced. It also features the appearance of both Chonjong kungga 殿庭宮架, a traditional band and the western style military band 軍樂隊. The former, traditional music was performed when Emperor Sunjong appeared and walked out and when participants bowed to him. Concerning the detailed repertoire, it was supposed to include Yomillak man 與民樂慢, Yomillak ryong 與民樂令, and Nagyangch`un 洛陽春. The military band played and Eckert played the national anthem of the Taehan Empire that he composed after the pattern of western music. After the coronation of Emperor Sunjong, some commemorative events took place in every circle. In the banquet of Tondokchon, there was a standing celebration party. In particular, Ilchinghoe 一進會 held a very flourishing celebration feast in the Independence Hall, and appreciated and enjoyed the whole presentation of music 樂, song 歌, dance 舞, and amusement 戱, which were prevalent back then.
