본 논문은 공간연출 디자인 요소 전반에 걸쳐 모티브(motif)로서 적용되는 미술 작품의 이미지에 대한 이해를 기본에 두고, 실제로 공간 연출의 디자인 요소에 적용된 미술적 모티브 이미지의 사례들을 고찰하고자 하였다. 특히 최근에는 탈 양식적 디자인에 대한 움직임이 부각되고, 디자인 전반에 첨단 장비 및 신소재 같은 기술적 요소가 더해지고 있는 상황에서, 공간연출 분야에서도 다양한 형태의 모티브 적용이 활성화되고 있는 것이 사실이다. 미술작품은 인류 역사 속에서 지속적으로 발전되고 검증되어 정립된 소재라는 점에서 디자인 모티브의 중요한 키워드가 아닐 수 없다. 따라서 작품을 통한 소통 및 교감, 커뮤니케이션이라는 측면에서 기호학적 분석의 하위 개념으로 볼 수 있는 ‘-graph’와 ‘iconology’의 관점으로 여러 사례들을 분석, 정리하였다. 디자인 요소에 적용된 미술적 모티브가 다양한 ‘-graph’ 요소를 기반으로 작가와 개념, 시대상 등을 표출하는 ‘iconology’적 사례들의 연구 과정을 통해 공간 연출에서의 다양한 모티브의 적용에 관한 방법을 체계화하고, 공간 디자인의 다원화를 위한 큰 흐름의 하나로서 미술적 모티브의 가능성을 제시하였다.

This study aimed to seek cases of Art-Images which was applied to Elements of Display Design & Space Design as a visual motif after defining of Art-Image as a visual Motif and Elements of Display Design. Recently, in the field of design, there is a growing trend which is based on rejection a fixed style such as, classic, modern, post-modern, etc. and supports of high-tech industries, many designers try therefore to apply art images to their design as a visual motif. The art image can be an important keyword of a design motif because the art had existed since a human history began, and verified as beautiful and valuable works. It is no wonder that people feel familiar and closer looking at popular art works, for examples, Gogh`s Sunflower`, Mondrian`s `Composition` or Salvador Dali`s `The persistence of memory`. Based on the reason, the art-image has the Function of communication and deriving sympathy from a design as a design motif or visual motif. So this study has analyzed cases of art-images which is applied to elements of display design from the view point of `-graph` and `iconology` which relate to the semiotics.
