The Zen thought of Suzuki Daisetsu. Japanese Buddhist Scholar, had a significant influence on Yeats's life and philosophy as well as his late poetry. This Eastern thought helped Yeats get out of his lifelong dualistic conflicts and realize the true meaning of the Unit of Being, making him concentrate on creative poetry writing in his old age. The purpose of this study is to investigate how Yeats encountered Zen thought and Suzuki, what the characteristics of Zen are. how Zen thoughts are reflected on “A Dialogue of Self and Soul,” relating this poem especially to Suzuki's Zen.

This paper aims to study Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast phenomenologically. The work is a kind of diary. It is the episodes he experienced from twenty-one to twenty-six years old. It depended on his memory. Therefore, the record can be analyzed as a phenomenological approach. Especially, as Hemingway was an expatriate in Paris, he criticized the things and people that he had. This supports the theory.

This paper discusses how characters show their responses and accept death in the Arkansaw Bear written by Aurand Harris, based on Elizabeth Kubler-Ross' five stage of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Harris's play, not following all the five stages and not sinking into the stage of depression, moves toward a new direction that life and death can be connected through art, which shows the uniqueness of Harris as a playwright for children, rising above Kubler-Ross' psychiatry concerning death responses. By the device of play-within-a-play, Harris' play compares and contrasts adult's and children's view on death, and shows itself the justification for play's own existence. This device helps Harris raise questions about the adult's old view on death and stress the need of new perspectives through children's eyes on death.

In Han Kang's “The Fruit of My Woman” and The Vegetarian, the “becoming-plant” of the women who are awakened to and thus struggle to escape from their unbearable reality, the reality of oppression, violence, and human cruelty, is paradoxically their way of seeking their true selves. To explore the trajectories of the female lead characters' desires and struggles to escape from the misery of existing reality, this paper reads the theme of “becoming-plant” in “The Fruit of My Woman” and The Vegetarian based on Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari's distinctive concept of “becoming.”

This paper focuses on examining Woolf's two approaching ways about the theme “language” in her first novel The Voyage Out As a modernist, she tries to find out 'proper' language which can represent life as closely as it is and The Voyage Out shows her quest for language itself. For more comprehensive approach, Woolf tries to see it from both the personal and social levels equally and she finds out her own language as a writer. In this paper we will follow her steps by looking into the 'words' of many characters represented in the novel and realize the depth and the meaning of her conclusion about language.

Savoj Zezek's theory of ideology is based on not only that of Georg W. H. Hegel's epistemology but also that of Jacques Lacan's psychoanalysis. The difference of between Zezek's and other two theorists' is that Zezek's theory has been designed beyond the level of analysing an individual's mind in order to read social context. Premised on that point, this paper reads two characters, Willy and Biff from Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman through Zezek's theory of ideology. For the process, the ideology as fantasy and its effect as well as Willy as a role infusing that ideology and Biff as an individual against it will be examined and then the fact will be shown that the ideology as fantasy is the support to subject.
