1e-biz Trade : An Analysis of Efficiency of Major Ports in Korea, China and Japan Using Mathematical Programming Approach

East Asian regional logistics is expected to grow rapidly. It may provide much more business opportunities for many countries within the region, on the other hand, it will create hot competition for market occupancy at the same time. Korea, China, and Japan, the key countries in East Asian region, have undertaken concerted efforts to improve their logistics sector, upgrade their infrastructure and technology to get a bigger slice of the market, especially in the filed of maritime and port. This paper presents the emperical measures of efficiency of 7 major Chinese ports, 3 major Korean ports, and 5 major Japanese ports along with the DEA and the Bootstrap method. In this paper, the container port service process is considered as a production process using five inputs (number of cranes, number of berths, length of berths, depth of berths, total area of container terminal) and generating one outputs (throughput). Through the analysis, we will investigate the efficiency of these major East Asian ports and figure out the trendof the efficiency.

The quality of service is recognized as being an important issue in rapidly changing home delivery service industry. To better understand the criteria used to assess home delivery service quality, we examine the literature on home-delivery service industry, service quality(SERVQUAL), and customers` stratification. And we conduct a survey with experienced customers by profitability stratification. Results show that proofed core customers who are satisfied with provided service quality by home delivery service companies, and are more profitable then other customers. In core customers, it`s important SERVQUAL factors that are reliability, assurance, empathy and responsiveness and so on.

This study aims to analyze the efficiency of the electronic bond issue in Korea, by focusing mainly on the government agency bonds. The efficiency is defined as a lower financing cost and advantage of technologies offered by Web. This comparative study was performed by describing the characteristics of the electronic bond auction, and by analyzing empirically off-line and on-line bond issues with its stop yields and commissions using the data of the Korean government agency bonds. In off-line primary market auctions using fax or telephone, unfairness and opaqueness is believed to exist due to asymmetric information among issuers, investors, and brokerage houses. On the other hand, the introduction of an electronic bond auction system is expected to relieve the problems in the off-line bond issue and enhance transparency and fairness in the primary bond market. This is primarily because of the fair openness of information to the internet users as proved before. I also verified the hypothesis that an increase in participants can lower interest in online auctions compared to off-line auctions.

This paper predicts the convergence strategies of high-technology companies by analyzing current convergence strategies and business sector trends in network IT value chain. Digital convergence and diversification (e.g., Penrose, 1959; Ansoff, 1965; Markides, 1995; Fey, 2000; Montgomery, 1994) in this paper can be defined as the strategies that high-technology companies diversify their businesses to other related business sectors (e.g., Hill and Hoskisson, 1987) in network IT value chain. Network IT value chain is composed of 6 business sectors which are core component, hardware, software, network, content, and service. We analyze the 6 companies as cases of high-technology companies such as Intel, Sony, Nokia, Microsoft, SK Telecom, and Yahoo. This paper is composed of 5 chapters as follows: Chapter I shows the outline of the paper. This chapter specifies research background, objectives and scope. Chapter II analyzes current convergence strategies of 6 companies. Chapter III shows the prediction of business sector trends in network IT value chain. This chapter includes major streams of business sectors and their predicted strategic pathways. Based on the implications of the analysis of current convergence strategies and the prediction of business sector trends, chapter IV predicts the convergence strategies of 6 high-technology companies. Finally, we compare the current strategic positions with the future positions in the perspective of the degree of diversification.

Corporate performance can be demonstrated through overall effects of competitive capability and e-Business application according to the company size. The most of early research regarding those subject has limitations in their study areas and the extents to the relationship of capability with the performance or e-Business applications. This study considers three factors simultaneously under Korean situation, the effect on corporate performance is statistically investigated. Even from in that, the competitive capability impacts are partially supported, also e-Business application factor impacts are partially supported to prioritize. The measurement of the effect which three factors makes on corporate performance must be investigated not only in individual dimension but also in synthetic dimension, the interpretation of the result will be changed consequently depending on the industrial and environmental condition where the enterprise is placed. Specially, when considering e-Business package introductions to the enterprise, it is necessary to make a synthetic decision considering the mentioned factors.

On-line shopping mall is to continuously send email to customers who make permission to receive e-mail. Unless the customers get out of membership or refuse to receive e-Mail, they will receive continuously messages. Such a method of sending message can make aversion of customers and weaken the effectiveness of communication. Considering this, the methodology of communication should be set up with checking the response on customers who receive e-mails. This research is on how we can increase the effectiveness of communication with the ways of construction of communication mix. This research verified that, according to the consistency level of components in communication mix, which comprise High Integration and Low Integration, affect the trust level of customers. Besides, This research confirm the adjustment effect in proportion to the loyalty of message receiver, and also the relation between the control effect on customer trust and increase of number of message in viewpoint of ``numbers of message source.`` As a result, the trust level of customer is enhanced as the level of communication integration is higher. Regarding the control effect, the loyalty of customer is direct proportion to the trust level of customers, while the number of source of messages is inverse proportion to the trust level of customers. Besides such verification analysis results, diverse interpretations, theoretical and practical implications were discussed and future research directions were suggested.

The emergence of new information technology and its rapid diffusion are based on the belief that the investmenton IT has enormous potential for improving the productivity of firms as well as individuals. In this paper, by comparing the results from two different models, we reexamine the impact of IT on the Korean economy. It was shown that, although the aggregate output growth istaking place in Korea because of the emergence of new IT goods and services, the Korean economy is not yet of an IT friendly structure, which improves other industries` production technology in accordance with the development of IT.

Last decades, de facto economic integration in East and Southeast Asian region has intensified with the enlargement of borderless trade and investment. In other hand, the progress of information technology (IT) has contributed to the economic growth of the region. Based on these changes, this research note emphasizes that, under the development of IT industry borderless e-business will expand widely in the region and have positive impact on speeding up the process of regional integration and vice versa. As the result, the vigorous circle between the two factors will have great impact on the economic development of the region. However, to make the vigorous circle come into being earlier, international cooperation with institutional measures are indispensable, and those effective measures for strengthening international cooperation should be involved in further studies.

Managers often complain that information systems are difficult to put to use. The problem would be solved if developers make systems more useful. This paper investigates the effect of social influence on the information technology adoption behavior of individual users. Several studies have attempted to incorporate the social influence factor into Davis (1989)` Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). However, their studies consider social influence on technology acceptance as largely conceptualized as subjective norm. This paper suggests that the informational social factor should be more adequate to assess social influence on information system usage behaviors. Our suggestion is empirically validated by the use of multiple regression analysis.
