1국내 배농가의 기술효율성 분석 - 재배유형별 동질성 구분을 중심으로 -

This study measured technical efficiency of Korean pear farms by cultivation type and certification type to make clear the difference of technical efficiency according to the homogeneity classification. From the analysis we tried to show the importance of homogeneity of sample farms in decision making unit. For the study, surveyed income data of pear farms in 2018 were obtained from Rural Development Administration, where cultivation type included intensive culture, semi-intensive culture and crude culture, and certification type included GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) and non-GAP. Data Envelopment Analysis was used to measure technical efficiency for input oriented CCR model, where farms selected inputs instead of outputs as decision making variables. Results showed that farms under intensive culture and crude culture had higher technical efficiency than semi-intensive culture, which was affected by small sample size of those cultures. Farms under certification types showed higher technical efficiency than overall farms, which implied the importance of homogeneity of sample farms in DEA analysis. In addition, technical efficiencies of GAP type and non-GAP type showed higher values in pairwise comparison with the technical efficiencies as a member of overall farms. This resulted in different benchmarking information and resource reallocation, implying the importance of homogeneity classification.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the rural development projects on residents' satisfaction. For this purpose, a few areas were selected where the Pivotal Center Vitalization Project (PCVP) and the Regional Unit Project (RUP) were carried out to conduct residents' survey. The ordered probit model was applied to the data from the residents' survey to estimate factors influencing their satisfaction. The results show that the satisfaction was higher among the residents in the PCVP than those in the RUP. The older the residents were, the more satisfied with the project they were. The longer they lived in the districts, the higher their satisfaction was. Analysis of variance shows that satisfaction rise as they understand the project better, get older, and live longer at their current residence. Results and findings are expected to provide some policy implications regarding rural development. The study, however, has its limitations since it is difficult to generalize its results based on the case study of six districts in the Gyeongnam Province.

In this paper, QUAIDS analysis was carried out to examine the demand system of vegetables in the Philippines, with casting light on the endogenous issues for a more rigorous discussion. As a result of comparing the model controlling for the endogeneity and the model without controlling for the endogeneity, the percent difference between elasticities of two models was shown up to 187%. This result suggests that price and expenditure endogeneities have a significant influence on estimates in the demand system, and the result implies that this may lead to inconsistent estimates when demand analysis does not control for endogeneity.

The purpose of this study is to examine the causality between the different grades of Korean beef (Hanwoo) in the same marketing channel and to identify a leading price for each marketing channel. The efficiency of the Korean beef market is evaluated through the existence of asymmetric price transmission. As a result of the analysis, asymmetric price transmission between the farm and wholesale price is found for the 1++ and 1+ grade beef. On the other hand, asymmetry in the price transmission is not found between wholesale and retail prices. These results support that downstream Hanwoo market is efficient because there is no market power in the marketing chain from the wholesale to retail markets. However, the fact that asymmetry is found between farm and wholesale prices in high grade beef implies the upstream marketing chain is inefficient.

Sugar is a very important agricultural product that is finally consumed or used as an intermediate product in the Korea food industry. However, raw sugar used to make sugar cannot be produced on its own, so it is mainly imported from Australia and Thailand, and the amount imported in the last three years is 1.78 million tons. Furthermore raw sugar is sensitive to weather conditions and oil prices, making it more price variability than other grains. For these reasons, it is important for Korea to bring in sugar stably to stabilize food prices and secure raw materials. Nevertheless, there is still lack of studies on the import of sugar in Korea. Thus, the purpose of this study is analyzing the determinants of raw sugar and refined sugar import volumes in Korea using gravity model. For this purpose, we constructed the panel data set over the 2000~2019 periods and carried out a gravity model by adopting random effect panel Tobit estimation. Also, we compared the estimates with Tobit model, OLS and PPML each other. From the empirical results, all estimates ware derived theoretically appropriate. First, Korean sugar imports was increased as growing GDP. Second, the decline in sugar imports was affected by the price of sugar and Action plan for sugars reduction. Third, decreased distance and FTA were proved to be a boost in sugar imports.

Korea has been implementing a beef grading system consisting of quality and quantity grades since 1992. The quality grade consists of 1++ (highest), 1+, 1, 2, 3 (lowest) grades and is determined by marbling score (% fat content), meat color, fat color, texture, and maturity. The quantity grade consists of A, B, and C grades and is determined by back-fat thickness, eye muscle area, and carcass weight. The quality grade, mostly determined by the marbling score, is the key factor in determining the price of beef. This pricing mechanism has increased the production costs by breeding beef cattle for a long time to receive a quality grade 1 or higher. In addition, the recent trend of meat consumption in Korea is moving toward avoiding fat in the diet. Accordingly, the Korean government changed the beef grading system from December 1, 2019. In the new grading system, beef with a lower marbling score receives a higher quality grade than before. Therefore, the new system is expected to affect the price of beef, especially premium beef (a quality grade 1 or higher). This study analyzed the effect of changing the beef grading system on premium beef price. To do this, we applied DID (Differences in Differences) model to the wholesale price of beef. As a result, it was found that the real price of premium beef increased by 709~779 won per kg due to the change in the beef grading system.
