The purpose of this study is to explore the language learning experiences of international university students studying abroad in Korea, and to examine their perceptions and attitudes toward plurilingual competence. 100 international students at a Korean university were surveyed on their experiences learning and using foreign languages, and additional in-depth interviews were conducted to examine how learners' language learning experiences, perceptions, and attitudes toward plurilingual competence could impact Korean language learning. According to the survey, all participants have learned more than two languages, with 36% of participants having learned three, 11% having learned four, and 4% having learned five or more languages. English was the dominant initial language learned, while Korean was most often learned as a second or third language. Various language learning experiences confirm that learners - as plurilingual speakers - shape their communication skills through the interaction between language knowledge and learning experiences that comprise their language repertoire. Learners' perceptions of plurilingual competence were generally positive, but they lacked awareness of themselves as a plurilingual speaker. The study found the need for cross-linguistic and intercultural teaching and learning methods alongside education policies that enable learners to recognize the value of their linguistic and cultural assets. The purpose of this study is to investigate the needs of foreign students for a media Korean language curriculum and to derive implications for the development of the curriculum. This study aims to discuss the Korean language curriculum, which is a medium that educates the Korean language based on media and develops the ability to acquire and produce new information, beyond passive media utilization. The ultimate purpose of the media Korean language education proposed in this study is to foster media literacy that allows the use of Korean critically and creative communication. The contents of the education consist of four areas: approach and utilization, critical acceptance, creative calculation, and multimedia communication. In this study, 121 foreign students were surveyed on the demand for the development of a Korean language curriculum to developm Korean language media literacy, the demand for four education areas, and the demand for media types. The results show that every question has a high need and demand. These findings could be used as a basis for the development of a more advanced media Korean language curriculum. (Korea University)

The purpose of this study is to provide a qualitative analysis of interdependence factors based on cooperative learning for Chinese students who have not actively participated class interaction, and to derive factors to promote interaction in the online learning environment. The method of the study analyzed problems that hinder interaction of foreign students through the experience log related to colloquial interactions in the ZOOM online learning environment of five Chinese students, and derived factors that should be considered to promote interaction in online classes centered on the interdependence of cooperative learning. As a result, items that could promote Korean interaction could be categorized into group communication interdependence, psychological environment interdependence, discourse context interdependence, and sub-items that facilitate interaction among group members, resource-role interaction, learning community formation, Korean speaking anxiety, Korean ability to performance, and participation differences. The bottom line is to design a joint class for learners to actively participate in the Korean language online class designed for Chinese students, to guide foreign learners, to provide background knowledge or key information related to major subjects, to understand new class culture, and to provide emotional support. The purpose of this study is to confirm the characteristics and the appearance of KFL(Korean as Foreign Language) in North Korea through compare with KFL text books and KFL in North Korean textbooks. To this end, the KFL textbooks were selected for 'Sejong Korean', which was published by Sejong Hakdang, and the 'Korean conversation: Ryuhaksang' was selected for the KFL in North Korea, published by Kim Hyung-jik Pedagogical University. In the number of units analyzed, 'Sejong Korean' was more than 'Korean conversation: Ryuhaksang', but the number of dialogues and the pairs of dialogues in each unit were highly frequent in 'Korean conversation: Ryuhaksang'. In addition, the lexical diversity can be deduced from the highly available 'Korean conversation: Ryuhaksang' to provide a more diverse vocabulary in KFL in North Korea than in KFL. However, in the frequency ranking of appearances by parts of speech, it was confirmed that the results of 'Sejong Korean' and 'Korean conversation: Ryuhaksang' were the same, so that the KFL and KFL in North Korea all formed a textbook focusing on the conversations used in real life. This study aims to analyze aspects of using online discourse synthesis writing strategies for Korean learners for academic purposes. To this end, after presenting a writing task to two study participants, data collection methods such as computer screen recording, recall report, and post-interview were used to reveal the pattern of writing strategy use. As a result, Korean learners for academic purposes were shown to use six strategic types of 'information retrieval strategy', 'information search and selection strategy', 'comprehension expansion strategy', 'meaning construction strategy', 'self-check strategy', and 'technology utilization strategy'. Also it has shown that Korean learners used a total of 16 detailed strategies. Using this result, this study proposed helpful directions for enhancing online discourse synthesis writing strategies. The purpose of this study is to apply the TTS(Text-to-Speech) program to the field of Korean language education and to improve presentation skills by leading input/output activities. In this study, learners' perceptions were examined through a survey after using listening material produced by the TTS program in intermediate Korean speaking classes for foreign students. The Korean speaking class focused on presentation. In the class, the presentation written by the learner was produced as a listening material using the TTS program and distributed to the students. It also induced input/output tasks by presenting students with tasks to record after listening to the listening material and practicing presentation. At the end of the semester, the final composition written by the students was produced as listening material and distributed to provide a model for pronunciation practice. As a result, it was confirmed that the use of TTS program in academic speaking classes provided sufficient input/output opportunities for students to learn Korean speaking and listening. However, it was confirmed that the task of improving the performance of TTS programs remained to produce listening material close to natural languages. (Yonsei University)

The purpose of this study is to examine emotional reactivity to Korean literary texts of both L2 advanced learners and L1 speakers and to compare the results to the psychophysiological responses of Ahn, Gye, & Kim(2021). The emotional arousal was measured through their self-rating scores according to three types of emotions(neutral, happy, and sad) during reading L2 passages from Korean literature. As a result, behavioral data displayed that L2 learners consciously understood the emotion of each text accordingly while L1 speakers rated happy texts as low as those of neutral texts. On the other hand, the psychophysiological responses of Ahn et al.(2021) showed that only L1 speakers but not L2 learners sense the emotion embedded in the texts. Such inconsistency found in L1 and L2 speakers' responses suggests L2 learners' emotional distance in L2 reading and emotion suppression of Korean culture. (KyungHee University)

The purpose of this study is to present examples of e-PBL application in liberal arts writing courses for foreign undergraduates. We presented how writing classes at universities applying e-PBL were conducted for foreign students attending K University. Based on the results of the learners calculated at each stage of e-PBL, it was revealed that e-PBL lessons were feasible for foreign students. Furthermore, we were able to derive their characteristics. According to a survey of students' satisfaction, foreign students were satisfied with e-PBL. However, e-PBL confirmed that there are space-time constraints and that it is difficult to solve the problem of reducing the satisfaction of learners such as free riders. This paper presents the direction of the course that aim to solve these problems. (Korea University)

The present study aims to analyze the listening strategies used by foreign students in Korean universities and graduate schools for lecture-listening. For this purpose, we surveyed 154 foreign students, and analyzed the overall strategic patterns of lecture listening and investigated the effects of learner's Korean proficiency and the period of acquiring lecture listening strategies. The results are as follows. First, analysis of the usage of lecture-listening strategies by the foreign students showed that cognitive strategies were most commonly used. Learners often used strategies such as 'to do their best to concentrate on the lectures', and 'to make a note or a record', while strategies such as 'critical listening' or 'asking the speakers for clarity' were seldom used. Second, learners who are proficient in Korean are more likely to use the listening strategies. Third, those with longer learning experiences do not necessarily use the listening strategies. Fourth, those with plenty of experience of listening to lectures in a university do not necessarily use the listening strategies. The above results indicate that extra education on lecture-listening strategies are needed when we provide Korean education for academic purpose to foreign students. We also need education focused on listening strategies such as 'critical listening' and 'asking speakers for clarity', which are not frequently used by foreign students. Besides, we need to remind the foreign students of the importance of using such strategies by themselves. (Pusan National University)

The purpose of this paper is to observe the errors of subject-predicate concord in sentences (composition + Sentence completion test) generated by Chinese learners, and then to analyze the causes of the errors. Correspondingly, this study aims to provide some educational contents for subject-predicate anaphora. First, by analyzing the learners' writing texts with data of 8262 words, it shows two aspects of errors. The grammatical concord error and semantic concord error, and the former includes the absence of subject or predicate, concord between the nominative of auxiliary words and predicate, the errors of predicate, sentence pattern anaphora, and the courtesy anaphora, of which the error rate of the concord between nominative of auxiliary words and predicates shows the highest frequency. Next, in order to observe the learners' concord errors specifically, an inductive test, namely, a sentence completion test (50 copies), was conducted. Based on the above discussion, specific educational contents for the correspondence between subjects and predicates are presented in the paper. (Jilin Normal University)
