The purpose of this study is to explore the educational methods of writing-to-learn (WTL) for secondary school multicultural background learners who are subject to KSL (Korean as a second language) education. In Chapter 2, it was mentioned that the contents of KSL Learning Korean should be based on subject literacy to establish the educational contents and categories of learning writing. In Chapter 3, the relationship between scientific writing and KSL learning Korean was theoretically examined in relation to teaching and learning variables. In Chapter 4, after examining the report genre knowledge and scientific cognitive knowledge as prerequisites for the writing-to-learn educational plan, this class introduces, develops, organizes, evaluates, and teaches according to the post-writing stage of the property of matter in the science subject. The significance of this class is that it proposes a plan for writing education for the KSL Learning Korean area according to the characteristics of the science department. (Jillye Middle School)

This study aims to analyze the 'suggestion text' of intermediate Korean learners and present writing education based on the suggestion text genre. For this, after collecting suggestions written by 37 Korean learners, writing aspects were analyzed based on external and internal customs. As a result of the analysis of suggestion texts by intermediate Korean learners, from the external text, they could not consider the reader's position without using the Korean honorific system, and failed to establish a reader-author relationship by not referring to the reader. Inside the text, there was an error that they did not organize the structure of the suggestion text and did not meet the contents of the first and last parts. Therefore, this study proposed teaching and learning methods of writing suggestion text genre, focusing on the genre-based teaching approach. This study aims to examine the studies on Korean politeness in terms of 'the issue of deriving macro-sociocultural meaning from micro-interactions' and 'the issue of stereotype generation in cross-cultural politeness researches', and to further suggest the necessity of studying Korean politeness based on an inter-cultural perspective. To this end, this study carefully reviewed the question of how to view 'individual' and 'culture' that realize politeness at the socio-cultural level. As a result, it is not appropriate to derive the macro socio-cultural meaning from the interaction between individual speakers as it is. Second, it is necessary to examine politeness from the perspective of diversity by discriminating around subcultural groups by variables. Thus, it is suggested to introduce an intercultural perspective that recognizes 'individual' and 'culture' as non-fixed, variable, multilayered, and complex concepts into the study of politeness. This study aims to suggest ways to improve Korean writing courses for academic papers by majors for foreign graduate students through this case study. The subject of case analysis is Korean writing courses that have opened at University A in the first semester of 2021. We reviewed the course syllabus, the examples of each class activity, and the satisfaction after class. As the result, the courses were divided into humanities and social sciences divisions as the genre characteristics of the papers vary depending on the major. Thus, the syllabus was designed by reflecting the needs and the current level of 28 students through the Borich model and the Locus for Focus model. The students perceived that their writing skills for academic papers were improved and highly satisfied with them after the courses. Lastly, some ways were suggested to improve the courses for foreign graduate students. This study shows examples of syllabus design that reflects the learners' majors, needs, current level and proves its effectiveness. (Korea University)

The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean and Vietnamese newspaper articles focusing on expressions that point out the article's central figure, clarify the differences in natural cohesive devices used in the two languages. To this end, Park Hang Seo, a hot topic in Korea and Vietnam, was selected as the article's central figure, and 40 articles in Korean and Vietnamese newspapers were analyzed. As a result, the text was simplified and clarified using cohesive devices in Korean, while the text was specified and diversified in Vietnamese. The results of this study are expected to be highly utilized as primary data for Korean and Vietnamese interpretation and translation education. This study aims to explore the factors for the development by the scale of attitudes toward Korean language, culture, and language education in parents of Korean American children. To develop the scale of this evaluation tool, this study conducted two pre-interviews with Korean school principals and teachers, reviewed previous research related to language learning attitudes, and analyzed diverse measurement tools. This interview confirmed that students' Korean achievement had a very close correlation with parental attitudes, and this was shown through the fact that recent changes in parental attitudes had a significant impact on students' learning goals and achievements. In addition, using measurement tools examined through previous studies and reflecting the interview results to focus on certain items on the Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory (BALLI) and Attitude Motivation Test Battery (AMTB), the factors of parental attitudes were applied to the perception of learning Korean. It was composed of 6 evaluation categories of beliefs about Korean, Korean language learning methods and communication strategies, Korean learning motivation, and the environment surrounding Korean language education. To apply the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique that would allow us to extract the importance and weight of each factor, a total of 72 paired items were composed. This study is meaningful in that it lays the foundation for the development of a scale by deriving factors to measure parents' attitudes toward Korean language education for Korean-American children. This study examined the trends and achievements of oral feedback studies in the field of Korean Language education. A total of 48 publications were analyzed by using the cross-searching of key words related to oral feedback. The existing analysis framework used in the previous studies was adapted to fit the oral feedback study. The findings underscore the need for conducting active research in oral feedback. The findings also show the limited number of studies that compare the effects of explicit and implicit oral feedback, which need to be further developed. Moreover, there is a need for both organization of terms and constant development of research design and methods as well as implications of oral feedback. This study contributes to the field of Korean Language Education in that it provides a thorough review of existing studies on oral feedback and paved the way for Korean learners to effectively improve their speaking abilities. This study may prove meaningful for future research of oral feedback in Korean Language education. (Ewha Womans University)

This study aims to describe the current status of overseas Korean language education and also to draw policy implications for the improvement of Korean language policies. The survey was conducted to understand the factors hindering Korean education as well as ways to promote it. The main findings are summarized as follows. Both 'curriculum/textbook and administration' among the four survey categories were mainly pointed out as the impediments. In particular, sub-factors such as 'the development of customized educational materials and the treatment of teachers' were pointed out as major obstacles. And as a way to promote overseas Korean language education, 'improvement of administration' was pointed out as the most urgent task, followed by the improvement of educational facilities and enhancement of curriculum and teaching materials. Considering these results, the Korean government should resolve such administrative issues as 'lack of personnel and institutions.' It also should improve the work environment of Korean teachers and train overseas ones to enhance the quality of overseas Korean language education. The acquisition and development of modal expressions of conjecture were examined by analyzing the corpus of free conversation among Korean learners in this study. 324 modal expressions of conjecture were extracted from a “longitudinal colloquial corpus of Korean learners” collected for 18 months from six Korean learners and analyzed the frequency, appearance, error pattern, and the realization of the indirect speech act of modality expressions to this end. The frequency of modality expressions was shown in the order of '-(eu)l geot gotda > -(eu)l geosida > -get- > -(eu)l soo itda > -(eu)l jul alda', and the appearance of modality expressions was shown in the order of '-(eu)l geosida> -(eu)l geot gotda and -get-'. The learners tend to make wide use of various patterns and use only a small number of expressions. The error rate increased between 3 and 6 months after learning the modality, and it decreased after 7 months and showed a stable pattern. The realization of indirect speech act begins to use euphemism which expresses one's judgment passively through '-(eu)l geot gotda'. However, it was confirmed that only some of the learners use it restrictively. This study is significant in that it specifically examined the development of modal expressions of conjecture longitudinally. (Wonkwang Digital University·Korea University)
