The purpose of this study is to prepare a pedagogical plan for teaching Korean composition using machine translation and examine its effects. In this study, a machine translation post editing (MTPE) teaching method on composition was developed. It was designed by modifying and supplementing the post-editing technique used in the field of interpretation and translation, in line with foreign language education. Afterward, it was applied to the Korean writing composition class to examine its effects. According to the results of the study, the MTPE teaching method has brought about a significant impact in improving the writing ability of Korean learners. Through this, the possibility of teaching composition classes through machine translation was verified and proposed the future direction of writing education based on machine-translation tools. This study aims to understand the operation of Korean language education majors in the Gwangju and Jeonnam provinces before developing the curriculum as part of regional research. In the Gwangju and Jeonnam region, a total of 7 universities offers undergraduate courses in Korean language education. However, this region has a characteristic of first-year Korean students being less than three, and the rest being international students. Besides, there are courses for acquiring Korean language teacher certification and improving Korean communication skills. This study interviewed the four current deans of the department of Korean Language Education among the seven universities to understand curriculum management and listen to their views. First, both Korean and international students significantly influenced academic achievement by setting goals and motivation. Moreover, they mentioned that curriculum management requires a new principle that considers learners in the entire process of selecting and arranging subjects, setting educational goals, developing educational contents and materials, and teaching methods for obtaining a Korean language teaching certificate. Courses related to Korean communication should also be designed based on the students' goals and the department's values. Also, they suggested that the use of non-subject activities, development of various subject types, and attempts of teaching methods were necessary. (Gwangju University)

The 2020 Standard Curriculum for Korean Language has been developed as the curriculum of the highest level of generality applicable to the broadest range of classrooms and learners. The Curriculum is configured in such a way as to serve as a foundation for subsequent individual curricula designed for a specific educational environment. This study analyzes the foreign language education policy and Korean language education in India and the 2020 Standard Curriculum for Korean Language to develop the curriculum and develops the Korean Language Curriculum for India's Upper Primary and Secondary Stages (Classes VI to XII) based on the 2020 Standard Curriculum for Korean Language. The purpose of this study is to design a teacher training program that enhances the professionalism of teachers at King Sejong Institute, and to establish a support system that can lead to active participation in the training program. To this end, the status of the teacher training program provided by the King Sejong Institute Foundation was analyzed and a survey for the teacher training program was conducted targeting King Sejong Institute teachers and related persons. Based on the analysis and the results of the survey, the design principles of the King Sejong Institute teacher training program were presented. The program was designed to comprehensively consider the training operating conditions, to prepare a program that can be jointly managed by the King Sejong Institute Foundation and the local institute, and to provide training in consideration of the life cycles and career characteristics of teachers. This study intended to present systematic training programs by designing the programs as job training, qualification training, special training, and self-training. In addition, it was proposed to operate a mileage system that utilizes the results of training participation for personnel management so that teachers can actively participate in teacher training programs. The purpose of this study is to redefine the concept of pragmatic information and categorize the types of pragmatic information. The main contents of grammatical items in Korean language teaching-learning have been centered on forms and meanings that are easy to set categories and types. As a result, learners may experience pragmatic failure because they do not know information about the actual use of grammatical items. Therefore, when providing grammatical items to learners, a multidimensional approach is needed that provides a balance of morphological, semantic, and pragmatic information. To this end, this study first redefines pragmatic information for Korean grammar education as 'knowledge related to the use of grammatical items necessary for Korean learners to properly express in Korean'. Also, pragmatic information was classified into three types related to the discourse context of 'discourse participant, discourse situation, discourse function' and three types related to the grammar use of 'similar grammar, abbreviation dropout omission, and the use effect'. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of the Korean adverbial particle '(eu)ro' by looking at actual linguistic data presented in a newspaper parallel corpus and a drama parallel corpus, and to identify the nature of the correspondence with the Chinese language through various semantic functions. It is meaningful to analyze and describe the complex Chinese correspondence to the Korean adverbial particle '(eu)ro' by contrasting newspaper and drama parallel corpora. Therefore, this study will analyze and compare the relative usage of the respective meanings of the adverbial particle '(eu)ro' using a parallel corpus of approximately 600,000 words that consists of a parallel newspaper corpus of 300,000 written words and a parallel drama corpus of 300,000 spoken words. The result was compared with the meanings of the adverbial particle '(eu)ro' presented in Korean language textbooks and suggests what supplementary meanings should be added based on the corpus analysis. In addition, the different cases of correspondence within spoken and written language will be provided as a basis for practical translation and communicative education related to the adverbial particle '(eu)ro'. This study was conducted to examine how the aspect of alignment activities in conversations between intermediate Korean language learners changed over a 10-week period. Most listeners expressed themselves relatively simple in the beginning but became increasingly complex over time. Listeners increasingly expressed agreement or empathy with speakers, building a cooperative relationship. Moreover, when conflicting opinions emerged, listeners increasingly attempted to mitigate the negative results of this conflict by expressing empathy and adding validating comments about the speakers' opinions. However, after 10 weeks, listeners would still discontinue conversations or avoid particular subjectss when there were conflicting opinions. Listeners increasingly recomposed, summarized, or revised the speakers' words over time. They also provided additional information or added specific explanations about what speakers said to achieve mutual understanding and contributed to conversations based on their own experiences. Listeners increasingly provided the uncompleted parts of speakers' sentences over time. However, they would still interrupt speakers because they were unable to know when the speakers had fully expressed their thoughts. (Yonsei University)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the understanding of Korean idioms by 91 Chinese Korean Learners (CKL). According to the literature review, the acquisition of idioms was mostly done through comparative analysis, but from a comparative cultural point of view, it is rare to categorize them. So, in our paper, we want to verify whether there are differences in the understanding of idioms depending on idiom type and transparency. In addition, whether their proficiency and residential experiences can be influential factors on their understanding of idioms were noted. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and T-test. The result showed significant differences in the understanding of idioms by idiom type and transparency as well as interaction effects between the two variables. Although there were differences in the understanding of idioms according to proficiency, it was confirmed that the residential experience affected the understanding of only type B2. This research is a basic research to find out ways to improve the academic ability of foreign cadets in Korea, aiming to survey foreign cadets' needs and test the appropriateness of the TOPIK 3rd level as an assessment tool for the level of Korean proficiency required of them. To this end, all 66 foreign cadets in the Korean military academy have been surveyed, and it was found that the foreign cadets needed 'speaking ability' the most among other language functions. They also had difficulties in understanding lectures, reading study materials, writing reports, and discussing·debating by function. The most frequently cited reason in all 4 functions was 'vocabulary'. The needs assessment for vocabulary revealed that they were in the highest need of conversational vocabulary, training-related vocabulary, and major-related vocabulary. In this context, questions in TOPIKⅡ had been analyzed and it was found that studying for TOPIKⅡ was helpful to improve general Korean language ability but inappropriate to develop foreign cadets' academic ability given the unique situation that they are in. Curriculum and assessments that are appropriate for foreign cadets need to be developed for efficient education as soon as possible. (Korea Defense Language Institute)

Boosters have not received enough attention in the field of Korean language education even though they are important linguistic devices that convey interpersonal meanings just as hedges in academic discourse. In addition, Korean academic discourse education in terms of the pragmatic aspect is important and desperately needed. Therefore, this study conducted a fundamental study focusing on boosters. First, the concept of boosters was defined by reviewing previous studies on boosters. Based on the theoretical background, boosters used in 20 research articles from five disciplines-History, Korean Language and Literature, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism-were examined quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Finally, the pedagogical implications that can be provided for Korean language education were discussed. (Sun Yat-sen University)
