This study aims to draw future questions, by examining the trends of contrastive studies on Korean and eight languages used in ASEAN-India and Eurasia. It analyzed the research chronology, purposes and topics, and the types of publication, for 649 studies that had been published from 1990 to 2021. The entire findings indicated that the number of studies began to be substantially increased since the early 2000s, and some languages were drastically grown since the 2010s. Each number of studies on foreign language education, research purpose and master's theses, and types of publication were highest, respectively (n=396, 61%; n=374, 57.6%). The number of studies on grammar was highest (n=224, 34.5%), followed by vocabulary, and then, pronunciation and discourse. It was also found that there is a variation in the research tendency among eight languages. It suggested that some languages in which fewer studies have been conducted would require the accumulation of studies in all aspects, while the others in which relatively more studies have been conducted would require the diversity of topics. It has an implication in that it analyzed the entire trends, where there was no research analyzing contrastive studies on them. (Kyung Hee University)

The purpose of this study is to 1) demonstrate that there is a considerable population of LGBT people who are learners or potential learners of Korean as a second language; 2) to point out that KSL/KFL education tends to manifest heteronormativity which could deprive LGBT learners of learning opportunities; and 3) to contemplate the methods to improve KSL/KFL education for LGBT learners. A survey was conducted on the Korean subreddit website. More than 70% of the survey respondents identified themselves as LGBT and 19.1% responded that teacher talk and/or teaching materials are unnecessarily based on heteronormativity. Methods to improve KSL/KFL education suggested including LGBT people in teaching materials the same way as heterosexual people and teaching LGBT related terminology. More than 90% responded there still is a need to make KSL/KFL education LGBT friendly even if there is a low chance of encountering openly LGBT person in Korea. This study concludes that gender dichotomy and heteronormativity should be avoided, which could begin with rejecting the notion that every learner is heterosexual. (Yonsei University)

The purpose of this study is to propose a teaching method for translation through team translation activities for international import/export goods sales contracts in the field of Korean business translation practical training.
In Chapter 2, the social constructivist perspective and translator competency, business job analysis based on NCS, and the contents of documents presented in business textbooks in Korean language education were reviewed, and the structure and contents of international import/export contract documents were mentioned in the translation textbooks.
In Chapter 3, we introduced the translation teaching procedure for banana import and export contract business by applying it to the IDRC model, a model devised as a platform for translation education, focusing on the learning environment element of social constructivism. The steps were suggested as setting the class context, raising a problem for writing the starting text, the Korean negotiation process, writing a Korean sales contract, and translating the international sales contract into English.
This study is differentiated in that learners approached it through the translation process while generating the starting text and translating the arriving text. (Jillye Middle School)

This study was designed to develop a Korean academic writing self-efficacy scale for foreign students. Based on the results of the literature review, three constructs and 30items were established. and 8 items were removed after verification by three specialists. Then a 22-item questionnaire was administered to 131 students and an exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the results. A new questionnaire was administered to 225 students based on the results of the exploratory factor analysis. and Confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the hypothesized three-factor structure. CFA validated the proposed three-dimensional structure of academic writing self-efficacy, including conventions organization (6 items), academic writing skill (4 items), and self-regulation (4 items). CFA results revealed an acceptable model fit (x²=154.80, df=74, p<.001; x²/df=2.092; TLI=0.943; CFI=0.954; RMSEA=0.070[.05, .07]; SRMR=0.044). Cronbach's alpha coefficient values of academic writing self-efficacy were 0.92, higher than the benchmark value (.70). Internal and composite reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity were examined, suggesting satisfactory psychometric properties of the scale. (Seoul National University)

This study aims to emphasize the need for designing education for cooperative task representation as a way to enhance the academic performance of international students and suggest specific educational steps and procedures. To this end, this study collected the task performance experiences of 39 international students and conducted a qualitative analysis of 286 semantic units. The results showed that international students are affected by the ease of selection and use of reference materials, knowledge of genres, and understanding of the purpose and method of tasks. Based on these results, this study divided cooperative task representation into a representation for task performance and a representation for the result composition and presents three corresponding educational stages for each representation. This study is expected to contribute to the establishment of contents and methods of Korean language education for academic purposes in the future. (Honam University)

This study analyzed the needs of the Korean language teacher training courses for the purpose of developing a curriculum that can have professional competence in line with the rapidly changing educational field. For the needs analysis, the t-test and the Borich and The Locus for Focus model were used, and the order of educational necessity was confirmed by adding the necessity item. As a result of the analysis, the difference between current students and graduates was confirmed in importance, demand, and necessity. In addition, it was confirmed that the survey respondents within the same group recognized separately what they thought was important and what they thought was necessary for actual education. Through this study, it will be possible to confirm the implications for the development and revision of Korean language teacher training courses. (Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

This study investigated the use of hedges by Korean native speakers and Chinese Korean learners in the introduction and conclusion of 100 journal papers. Besides, it compared the use list of hedges between the two groups to give implications for Korean academic writing education.
When it comes to the analysis, firstly, while the two groups showed the same order of frequency of 'rounder > plausibility shield > attribution shield > adaptor' in the introduction part, the two groups also showed the same order of frequency of 'plausibility shield > attribution shield > rounder > adaptor' in the introduction part of journal papers. Secondly, the Korean group of native speakers was found to show higher diversity in the 'plausibility shield' classification of the introduction part and the 'attribution shield', 'rounder' classification of the conclusion part. But on the whole, the diversity and frequency of use of hedge by Chinese learners were not lower than those of Korean native speakers in journal papers. Thirdly, it was found that in the same journal paper Chinese learners were used to using the same hedges repeatedly. In addition, Chinese learners were sometimes found to use awkward hedges.
Therefore, the list of classification-specific hedges extracted through this study is still worth presenting to Chinese learners. In future studies, research can be expected to collect more journal papers in different fields to create a list of hedges that can be applied more generally, Besides, it can be expected to explore them as an educational method. The purpose of this study is to investigate the linguistic use of stance markers in Korean conference presentation discourse. With the increasing interest in stance-taking used in Korean academic writing, the present study concentrated on the expressions indicating stance-taking in Korean conference presentation discourse, one of the representatives of Korean academic presentations. The data used for analysis are ten Korean conference presentations from Korean education discipline. Stance markers were divided into three categories: the epistemic stance markers, the attitude stance markers, and the style stance markers. The analysis suggests that the stance markers in oral conferences differ from those in written research articles to some extent, offering pedagogical implications to the Korean academic presentation. Firstly, we can help KAP students understand the communicative purpose and context of conference presentations. Secondly, the teaching of academic presentation can be combined with the pedagogy of speech acts like arguing, criticizing, and requesting. Thirdly, it is necessary to focus on the linguistic devices used as stance markers distinguishable from those in research articles. (Sun Yat-sen University)

This study reviews the communication interruption situation in real-time online Korean lessons through the method of conversation analysis. The communication interruption situation refers to the situation in which the communication during class deviates from the original flow intended by the teacher or is stopped. In 3 classes showing different proficiency, total 26 sessions of real-time online class are recorded and transcribed, and 100 cases are extracted, and analyzed focusing on the reason of communication interruption, whether they are solved or not, and the subject of the attempt and the type of attempt. As a result, the reasons of communication interruption are classified into 'failure to recognize', 'misunderstanding of instruction', 'system failure' and 'environmental restriction', among them, the situation due to 'misunderstanding of instruction' needs relatively many times of attempts to solve this, and the situation due to 'environmental restriction' is often not solved, showing high seriousness. In particular, these problems occurred more frequently in the class with low proficiency. This study is meaningful in that it qualitatively reviews the difficulty in communication and the reality of unnaturalness in real-time online classes. (Wonkwang Digital University)

The purpose of this study was to construct colloquial text measurement formulas that can be utilized in Korean writing evaluations, to draw up a list of colloquial grammar and vocabulary and analyze the frequency of the appearance of conforming text corpus in both spoken and written language. Logistic regression analysis was carried out on the frequency analysis results, and the derived regression equations were used as colloquial text measurement formulas. Values from the ROC curve and AUC analysis showed that the performance of the colloquial text measurement formulas was excellent. In addition, there was a high correlation between the grading scores by a group of experts and the grading based on the colloquial text measurement formulas. Therefore, both the validity and reliability of the colloquial text measurement formulas developed in this study have been verified and they are expected to be useful in actual writing evaluations. This study examines online KFL(Korean as a Foreign Language) content focused on Youtube and Instagram. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the educational value of Youtube and Instagram for Korean language education. To compare these two online platforms' characteristics, this study investigates the way of composing content, interacting with users, and education content (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, speaking, writing, culture education). After a series of analyses of the collected content, students who learn the Korean language through Youtube or Instagram were surveyed. Through such research, it was confirmed that satisfaction with culture, speaking, and vocabulary education is high on Instagram, and culture, listening, grammar education is high on Youtube. In addition, students use various social media features and tools like live streaming, comments section, Instagram hashtags, Youtube community tab which allows them to interact with each other. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of South Korea and North Korea, North Korean defectors, reunification and the requirements for education related to South Korea and North Korea topics for advanced Korean learners, and to examine the applicable methods and directions for Korean culture education. This study conducted a preliminary survey on level 5 learners of advanced Korean language, and based on this, an in-depth survey was conducted on 34 advanced learners of level 5 and 6 students. In addition, five study participants of different nationalities were selected and conducted 1:1 in-depth interviews. First, as a result of examining the image of North Korea and North Korean people, the learners perceived the North Korean government negatively, but had a sympathetic image of North Koreans, unlike their perception of the North Korean government. Second, as a result of examining the perception of North Korea in the learner's country and their family's reaction to them studying in South Korea, there was a tendency to perceive North Korea as a threat and a country with serious human rights issues, but there were both positive and negative responses to the learner's studying in South Korea. Third, for questions asking about their perception of the reunification of South Korea and North Korea, the learners answered that they wished for the reunification of South Korea and North Korea but that it would be difficult to actually achieve. Fourth, as a result of the following survey on the demand for education related to North Korea and reunification, it was found that learners are willing to participate in classes, special lectures, and programs dealing with South Korea and North Korea-related topics. By taking a new approach to topics related to South Korea and North Korea, which have not been highlighted in the field of research and education, it was found that the areas of interest of advanced learners can be expanded to North Korean society, culture, and language. The purpose of this study is to design e-PBL problems and instructional models for learners for academic purposes, and to present examples of scaffolding that can support e-PBL activities at each stage of the model. To this end, this study developed an unstructured problem and an e-PBL model appropriate for problem-solving learning and applied it to two academic communities composed of international students. Through this, the scaffolding cases of appeared the learner's academic community activities were derived inductively, and additionally necessary scaffolding was extracted through post-survey and interviews. As a result, an e-PBL instructional model consisting of four stages of problem definition, problem search, problem solving, presentation and evaluation was proposed. In addition, cognitive and affective scaffolding, etc., were derived which can promote and help international students' problem-solving activities at each stage of the model. The purpose of this study is to analyze the fixed expressions of politeness utilized in a Korean email corpus to identify specific politeness strategy markers being used by Korean college students. To this end, the dataset was collected from 82 Korean college students. The entire Students' Email Corpus(SEC) consists of 146 emails written by both Korean male(SEC_M) and female(SEC_F) students. The Wordsmith 8.0 program is used to classify the fixed expressions of politeness of the Korean email corpus. As a result, 'Gamsahabnida' is used as a positive politeness strategy marker, and 'Hoksi' is used as a negative politeness strategy marker in this research. This corpus-based study takes a pragmatic look at the distinctive polite expressions and strategy markers that are used in actual emails written by native Korean speakers. This study provides authentic data applications in teaching and learning Korean politeness for effective email communication. (Busan University of Foreign Studies)

This study aims to propose a method for teaching married female immigrants the Korean refusal speech acts by using “Webtoons”. This study reviewed the Korean rejection strategy types proposed through previous studies and discussed the usefulness of webtoons in Korean language education. Based on that content, this paper designs a class on Korean refusal speech acts by using < Myeo-Neu-ra-gi > and applied it to Korean language classes. Educational implications were derived by analyzing the results of a class satisfaction survey for learners and institutional personnel. This study explored the possibility of using webtoons in the education of Korean refusal speech acts for female married immigrants and suggested pedagogic implications through class design and application. The study aims to provide useful implications and insights for designing Practical Korean language curriculum for the future by exploring the characteristics found in the Korean language curriculum experience using K-POP from the perspective of the participants. This study was designed using the 'case study' method to understand the experience in the Korean language curriculum using K-POP. First, looking at the characteristics of the contents shown in the experience of the Korean language curriculum using K-POP, learners tended to pursue the usefulness of knowledge with interest and acquired content focusing on sympathetic messages. Second, in terms of the learning method shown in the Korean language curriculum experience using K-POP, learners developed their learning experience based on discovery learning. In addition, they used the shadowing method, one of the language improvement techniques, and showed an embodied cognitive process that leads to active use of direct speech and writing from passive language learning to listening, reading, and understanding. Third, as a characteristic of learning outcomes that reflect Korean language education experiences using K-POP, learners collected and shared K-POP-related materials, forming a new participatory culture, and improving their online content media literacy skills. This study reveals practical information on what experience Korean language education using K-POP provides from the perspective of learning subjects. The practical reports and analysis results of the case actually provided important clues for reorganizing and designing the curriculum. This study aims to design and present the framework of an evaluation system for the Korean language curriculum as a foreign language. To design the framework, this study first looked at the representative evaluation models that have been used for curriculum or educational program evaluation, and paid particular attention to the strengths of the CIPP model. In addition, this study examined some case studies of using the CIPP model that has been published in Korea as well as in overseas. And this study reviewed the results of studies conducted to evaluate the foreign language curriculum using the CIPP model. Through this procedure, the framework of an evaluation system was designed. Accordingly, the evaluation category was divided into 'the plan of the curriculum, the contents and structure of the curriculum, the operation and execution of the curriculum, and the performance and improvement of the curriculum' so that situation evaluation, input evaluation, process evaluation, and result evaluation are possible. The evaluation stage of the curriculum plan is further sub-categorized into environmental analysis, needs analysis, and curriculum development principles. The stage of the content and structure is sub-categorized into curriculum goals, curriculum content system, curriculum achievement standards, teaching/learning and evaluation. The operation and implementation stage of the curriculum is sub-categorized into teacher education, curriculum operation support plan, and curriculum execution. Finally, the outcomes and improvement stage are sub-categorized by dividing them into outcomes and improvement of the curriculum. In addition, detailed evaluation items were developed to fit the evaluation contents of each sub-category, and the details were described for each category. The present study aims at investigating the use of hedges and boosters in Korean research article abstracts of five academic disciplines. Hedges and boosters are linguistic forms that encode the uncertainty and the definite attitude of the writer or speaker. These expressions do not contribute to the composition of the propositional contents in academic discourse, but they are linguistic devices that express the epistemic stance of the writer or the speaker. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, a corpus was constructed by selecting 40 abstracts in each academic field, and the use of hedges and boosters was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on the analysis results, the pedagogical implications of writing abstracts were discussed. Firstly, Korean learners for academic purposes should understand the interpersonality in the abstracts of research articles. Secondly, the differences in the use of hedges and boosters between different disciplines should be taken into account in teaching research article abstract writing. Lastly, it is necessary to teach different linguistic forms of hedges and boosters, and the locations where they are used in the abstract moves. (Sun Yat-sen University)

The purpose of this study is to conduct Korean speaking classes in Metaverse and report the cases. Since Metaverse is a virtual implementation of the real world, it can be an effective educational tool that can elicit learners' interactions through practical speaking tasks based on the theory of social constructivism and task-oriented teaching. In this study, a Korean speaking class was conducted for about a month for 23 beginner Korean learners in Gather.town, which has the highest educational utilization among Metaverse platforms developed so far. As a result, over 90% of learners portrayed satisfaction in terms of interest and interaction in class and usefulness in speaking practice. However, the Metaverse educational platform still lacks certain features and has limitation of the construction of a 5G communication environment to drive the Metaverse platforms, and teachers' perception of learner-centered classes remain as challenges. Nevertheless, it is meaningful that the research can be used as a basic study in the use of Metaverse platforms in the field of Korean language education. (Ewha Womans University)
