본 연구의 목적은 MBC 예능 프로그램 <놀면 뭐하니?>에서 나타난 부캐의 특징과 이를 둘러싼 세계관의 확장 양상을 살펴보는 것이다. 최근 들어 부캐의 활용은 이 프로그램뿐 아니라 유튜브의 <피식대학>, <꼰대희> 등 다양한 콘텐츠에서 인기를 끄는 흥미로운 현상이다. 본 연구에서는 <놀면 뭐하니?>에 초점을 맞추고, 프로그램에서 부캐가 처음 등장했던 2019년 8월부터 2021년 7월까지를 분석 시기로 정하여 방영 프로그램을 살펴보았다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 프로그램은 유재석의 기존 이미지에서 벗어나 다양한 이미지를 보여주기 위한 수단으로 부캐를 활용하고 있었으며, 유재석을 중심으로 세계관이 확장되고 있었다. 또한 유재석 외에 부캐를 갖는 연예인들은 부캐 직업군이 다양하게 변하지 않았다. 따라서 이들은 다양한 정체성을 보여주기 위한 시도로 부캐를 활용했다고 보기는 어려웠다. 유재석의 다양한 부캐를 중심으로 기타 부캐가 구성되는 양상을 보인 것이다. 본 연구는 여러 부캐를 전면적으로 보여준 <놀면 뭐하니?> 프로그램을 바탕으로 예능계에서 활용되는 부캐와 세계관의 특징, 사회문화적 함의에 대하여 고찰하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of ‘subsidiary characters (Bu-Cha in Korean)’ and the expansion of the worldbuilding surrounding them in MBC‘s entertainment program, . This research analyzes the meaning and characteristics of subsidiary characters used in entertainment programs. The main analysis period for the research is from August 2019, when the secondary character first appeared in the program, to July 2021. According to the analysis results, the program was using Yoo Jae-seok's subsidiary characters as a means to play with various images and roles away from his already established image, and the worldbuilding had been expanding around it. In addition, celebrities appeared in the show with Mr. Yoo had their own subsidiary characters but not veered away far from their original identities. It is hard to state that their subsidiary characters existed on their own. But there did when they was called to the roles by Mr. Yoo. This study is significant in that it examines the characteristics of the subsidiary characters and worldbuilding used in the entertainment industry, and socio-cultural implications based on the program, .
