IB PYP는 초학문주제 중심 접근 안에서 개념기반 탐구중심 교육을 구현하는 프로그램이다. 본 연구는 IBO가 IB 학교의 초학문적이고 개념적인 접근에 기반한 교육과정과 단원 설계를 지원하기 위해제공하는 PYP 교과별 교육내용 프레임워크가 어떠한 특징을 보이는지를 분석하고 시사점을 탐색하는 데 연구의 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 PYP의 교육내용 프레임워크에 해당하는 교과별 ‘범위와 계열(scope and sequence)’ 문서를 연구 대상으로 삼아 분석하였다. 연구 결과, IB PYP의 사회, 과학 프레임워크는 초학문주제를 중심으로 한 통합을 구현할 수 있는 형태로 제시되는 한편, 언어, 수학은PYP 탐구를 촉진하는 교과로, 예술과 인성･사회성･체육(PSPE)은 초학문주제 학습을 풍요롭게 하고학습자의 개인적･사회적 웰빙과 건강을 고려하는 특성을 보이는 등 교과에 따라 교육내용 프레임워크에 접근하는 방식에 차이를 보였다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로, 본 연구에서는 IB PYP 교육내용 프레임워크의 초학문적 접근을 구현하는 특징으로서 ‘초학문주제 중심 교과통합 구현을 위한 프레임워크 지원’ 과 ‘초학문적 통합 관점에서의 교과별 역할 재조명’을, 개념적 접근을 구현하는 특징으로서 ‘핵심 개념을 통한 교과 연결 및 개념기반 수업 구현’과 ‘개념적 이해와 중심 아이디어를 통한 학습과 삶으로의 전이 지향’을 시사점으로 도출하여 논하였다.

IB PYP is a program that implements concept- and inquiry-based education within a transdisciplinary approach. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the IB PYP educational contents framework provided by IBO to support the school curriculum and unit design of IB schools and to explore their implications. For this purpose, ‘scope and sequence’ documents for each subject corresponding to the educational contents framework of PYP were analyzed. As a result of the study, social studies and science framework are presented in a form that can implement transdisciplinary integration. On the other hand, language and mathematics are framework that promote PYP inquiry, and arts and personal, social and physical education (PSPE) enrich transdisciplinary learning and take into consideration the personal and social well-being and health of learners. There is a difference in the way of approaching the educational contents framework. Finally, supporting a framework for the realization of transdisciplinary curriculum integration, refocusing on the role of each subject from a transdisciplinary perspective, suggesting key concepts that can connect subjects and implement concept-based instruction, and presenting conceptual understanding and central ideas in order to transfer what has been learned to other learning and life are derived and discussed as implications.
