This paper aims to categorize the ninety-three Hwasubun folktales into several stereotypes, and to establish some generic modes of the stories by comparing the Korean folktales with the eleven types of Japanese folktales which share the Korean traits.In addition, it tries to mark out similarity and difference between the tales of the two countries by investigating the type of the magic objects and the miracle of Hwasubun, while it attempts to deduce a moral import from the tales.
