국문초록 한국의 전통무예 택견은 1983년 6월 1일 중요무형문화재 제76호로 지정되었다. 초대 예능보유자 송덕기(1893~1987)와 신한승(1928~1987)이 작고하고 남겨진 이들의 제자들에 의해 1990년 초부터 택견의 전통성 시비에 대한 논쟁과 갈등이 빚어지고 있다. 택견계의 갈등은 근본적으로 우대 택견과 아래대 택견의 차이에서 시작되었다. 우대 택견은 종로 등 궁궐에 가까운 지역의 택견으로 송덕기가 이었고, 아래대 택견은 문밖의 왕십리와 청계천 일대의 택견으로 신한승이 그 맥을 이었다. 본격적인 택견계의 갈등은 근대 택견의 전승자 송덕기와 근대 택견의 정립자 신한승의 사후에 남겨진 전승자들이 자신들의 입지와 처지에서 스스로의 부족함을 스승들의 덕과 위업으로 포장하기 위해 양보와 타협하지 않는데서 비롯되었다. 그 과정은 상호의 택견 운용원리에 대한 비방과 견제로 발전했고, 결국 택견 계보상의 고인들의 존재를 부정하기까지 이르렀다. 무엇보다 이 갈등의 주체는 택견의 가장 특징적인 기초 동작 품밟기(스텝)와 활개짓(손놀림)이었다. 바로 이 품밟기와 활갯짓에 대한 방식의 이해 차이로 인해 택견계는 사분오열되었다. 그런데 안타까운 것은 그동안 택견인들은 이에 대한 학문적인 연구와 구체적인 역사적 검증도 없이, 막연히 영상물과 스승들의 가르침에 대한 기억만을 가지고 옳고 그름을 논하려 했었다. 이러한 경과가 그동안의 비약적인 택견계의 발전에 비해 일반인들에게 부끄러운 인상과 편견만 심어주게 되었다. 이 논문은 이제 택견이 현대인의 진정한 생활체육으로의 도약을 위해, 택견 동작들에 대한 심도 있는 선행 연구를 통해 합리적이고 과학적인 원리를 밝히고, 나아가 모든 택견인들이 그 결과물에 대한 수용과 합의 도출을 통한 갈등해소를 제의하고자 하였다.

The legitimacy problems in Taekgyeon Jeong, Jea Sung(Young San university) Taekgyeon is the 76th Korean Important Cultural Property. It was almost unknown from the people until 1980's. During 1980's, Korean economic development was successful and the effect of that spread out widely. People could have time to spare. Some of them had a great concern about Taekgyeon and they also wanted to learn more and more about Taekgyeon. Mass media informed Taekgyeon broadly, too. Nowadays, Taekgyeon become famous and a lot of people practice Taekgyeon. However, as Taekgyeon become more famous, some arguments about the legitimacy problems are appeared. Groups are separated and train themselves with different motions. There are two groups which usually debate those problems. One is the succeeded group from Song dukgi, who was a first Taekgyeon human cultural asset, and the other is the descended group from Shin hanseng, who was also a first Taekgyeon human cultural asset. Song dukgi played "Witdae" Taekgyeon and Shin hanseng played "Aratdae" taekgyeon. The former steps "V"-formed motions but the latter do "L"-formed motion. Taekgyeon is a very important Korean traditional cultural asset. Once it became almost forgotten from the people. Taekgyeon regain it's reputition after spending lots of time. The controversy on the Taekgyeon legitimacy problem is unnecessary.
