Records on 510 male calves of Korean Native Cattle(HANWOO) were used to estimate genetic parameters for live animal measures and carcass traits. Seventy sires were represented. Henderson`s method 3 were used in estimating heritabilities and genetic correlations for body weight at 6 months of age(BW6), body weight at 18 months of age(BW 18), average daily, gain after 6 months of age(ADG), dressing percentage(DP), retail cuts (RC). backfat thickness(BF), eye-muscle area(EMA) and marbling score(MS). Heritability estimates were high for growth traits(BW6: 0.52. BW 18: 0.40. ADG: 0.29). Heritability estimates of carcass traits were 0.15 at DP. 0.41 at RC, 0.33 at BF, 0.15 at EMA and 0.48 at MS. Genetic correlations among growth traits(BW6, ADG and BW18) were positive(0.24-0.87) but those between growth traits and RC were negative(-0.36∼0.73). RC was negatively correlated with BF(-0.13) and MS(-0.69) but BF was positively associated with EMA(0.36) and MS(0.17). Thus, selection for decreased backbat thickness may lead to undesirable change in marbling score and eye-muscle area.
