This experiment was carried out to determine the growth characteristics and forage yield of 118 introduced spring oats (Averur saliva L,) including Jeonjin and Cayuse at the Experimental Livestock Farm, College of Agriculture, SNU, Suweon in 1979 and 1981. In this experiment, tillering, plant growth form, leaf width, plant height, earliness and dry matter yield were investigated. Introduced spring oats tested were mostly superior to the control variety, Jeonjin in productivity. High yield oat varieties showed upright form of growth with broad leaf and earlier in maturity, but produced fewer tillers. Twenty two spring oat varieties showed promising productivity and adaptability in Korea compared with Cayuse. From the viewpoint of the growth, earliness, forage yield and seed purchase, it is suggested that the recommendable varieties for the more detailed test were Burnett (CI No. 06537), Newton (CI No, 06642), Fundy (CI No. 07288), Putnam 61 (CI No. 07531), Gold crest (CI No. 07596), Otter (CI No. 08304), Multiline E 68 (CI No. 08345) and Multiline M 68 (CI No. 08346).
