Two experiments were conducted to compare the palatability of fresh cut adlay (Coix lachryma-jobi var. mayuen), a sorghum-sudangrass hybrid (Pioneer 988), and orchardgrass major mixed grasses as soiling crops to seven Korean native cows weighing 300-350Kg. In Experiment I, the daily total DM intake and first 60 minutes DM intake after fed soilages were measured by cafeteria method which three species of the soiling crops were fed in a blocked manger at once: to allow the animals to choose any species freely like a cafeteria table. The ratio of daily DM intake of mixed grassed: sorghum-sudangrass: adlay were 44:32:24 and that of the first 60 minutes were 51:33:16. The average daily total DM intake of a cow was 4.44Kg and that of the first 60 minutes was 2.88Kg. In Experiment II, animals were fed only a species of soilage ad libitum during the experimental periods. 3×3 Latin-square design with 6 days periods were used. The daily total DM intake of mixed grasses, sorghumsudangrass and adlay was 4.75, 4.36 and 2.47Kg, respectively. The daily DM intake of mixed grasses and sorghum-sudangrass was significantly higher (P$lt;.05) than that of adlay and it was 51% of mixed grasses and 57% ofsorghum-sudangrass.
