The basic principles of creation of recombinant DNA, gene transfer in mammalian cells such as uptake of DNA by vertebrate cells, cotransformation and microinjection of DNA into the nuclei of cells, and genetic manipulation techniques used in farm animals, including chromosomal, ceaular and embryonic manipulation, are reviewed.
