Performance of introduced Angus, Charolais, Polled Hereford and their cross breds (Angus × Hereford and Charolais × Hereford) were studied. 1. Charolais (31.5 Kg) and Polled Hereford (30.2 Kg) were considerably larger at birth than Angust (25.2Kg) but at 12 months Angus (217.3 Kg) was heavier than Polled Hereford (155.9 Kg) or Charolais (184.2 Kg). In cross breds the birth weight of C × H (32.7 Kg) was heavier than A × H (30.5 Kg). However there was no significant difference in weight at 12 months between the tow cross breds. 2. Males were heavier at birth than females and the weight at 12 months was still in favour of male. 3. Heterosis in birth weight was 9.9% in A × H and 5.8% in C X H but only C × H showed heterosis in weight after 6 months. 4. Average daily weight gain in feed lot was greater in Chalorais (1.15 Kg) than Angus (1.04 Kg) or Polled Hereford (1.06 Kg). In cross breds daily weight gain was greater in A × H than C × H. The dressing percentage was higher in cross breds (53.0%) than pure breds (52.5%). 5. Effect of sex on the daily weight gain and carcase percentage was greater in Charolais male calves (1.15 Kg) than Polled Hereford (1.05 Kg) or Angus (1.04 Kg) male calves. A × H male gave the higher daily weight gain (1.17 Kg). Dressing percentage of cross breds was also higher (53.1-53.3%) than the pure breds (51.6-52.9%).
