Intended to evaluate the efficiency of nitrogen utilization under hay-type management in this paper, based on the data of preceeding paper. This experiment was conducted from May to September, 1977 at the experimental farm of Hokkaido University. Average increase in total nitrogen yield per fertilizer N which was expressed as a measure of response rate of total nitrogen yield of grass to fertilizer N by linear regression coefficient of total nitrogen yield on rates of fertilized N. The results may be summarized as follows; 1. Average increase in total nitrogen yield to the basal N fertilization level was higher at The early heading stage than the first cutting at the end of the heading stage. These results may indicate that the early heading stage is the optimum cutting time from the view point of the efficiency of nitrogen utilization. 2. Average values of the second cutting were 0.78 ㎏ (ranged from -0.94). 0.73 ㎏ (0.55-0.94) and 0.36 ㎏ (0.28-0.42) TN/㎏ N for Kitamidori, Latar and S143, respectively. 3. Average increase in annual TN yield obtained were 0.40, 0.34 and 0.24 ㎏ TN/㎏ N in Kitamidori, Latar and S143, respectively. 4. The highest values obtained were 0.71, 0.70 and 0.31 ㎏ TN/㎏ N at the 200 ㎏/㏊ annum for Kiitamidori, Latar and S143, respectively.
