A stand of orchard grass and mixed perennial ryegrass and ladino clover was cut for hay. The first growth was cut at different stages of maturity. Chemical analysis and digestion trials with sheep was conducted to evaluate the feeding value of the hay. The results are summarized as follows. 1. In the herbages cut during the period of the before heading and seeds inmature stage the content of crude fiber was increased with advancing the maturity, but crude protein declined markedly. 2. The digestibility of DM, crude protein and crude fiber decreased with advancing the maturity. 3. The TDN contents on dry matter basis of the orchard grass hay were 64.3, 58.6, 53.2, and 52.4% at early heading, heading, of ter flowering, and seeds inmature, respectively. Mixed hay of perennial ryegrass and ladino clover were 68.0, 59.3, and 56.0 % at before heading, heading, and after flowering. 4. The DCP contents on dry matter basis of the orchard grass hay were 9.9, 5.5, 4.2, and 2.1% at early heading, heading, after flowering, and seeds inmature, respectively. Mixed hay of perennial ryegrass and ladino clover were 11.8, 6.8, and 2.6% at before heading, heading, and after flowering.
