The main objectives of this survey were to study the easy and safe methods of forage crop production from rice paddy between successive rice crops. Over a 8-month period (October, 1974 to May, 1975) the survey was made on nine different farmers` paddy fields in Kyeonggi district. The following conclusion could be made from the results of the survey; (1) In the northern parts of Korea where winter is too cold for oats and Italian ryegrass, rye is the best crop to be sown on rice paddy as forage crops. (2) Until the end of October, rye could be sown for soiling in the spring, but the mid-October sowing would be benefit from production point of view. (3) Fertilizer, particularly, urea should be increased to enough amount for forage production as basic as well as top dressing. (4) Drainage ditches should be made for prevent water standing on the paddy fields during the early spring. (5) Forage production from the spring-sown oats or Italian ryegrass is not meaningful because of low yield when they harvested before the middle of May.
