Studies on the growth characteristics, production and harvesting dates of native herbage plants, including five grasses and two legumes were carried out in 1970. The results obtained are as follows; 1. Of the species tested, the highest total green yield was obtained from barnyard millet and ladino clover(6,525 and 5,272㎏/10a), Digitalia sanguinalis and Arundinella hirta yielded 5,260㎏ and 3,921㎏ per 10 a. 2. Application of fertilizers showed a favourable effect to increase tire green yield of native herbage plants, 408 percent of green yield was obtained on the plot received fertilizers. Under low fertility condition, native herbage plants showed less response in decreasing growth rate compared with pasture plants. It was observed that barnyard millet and Lespedeza striata gave 470% and 229% of increasing green yield when fertilizers were applied. 3. From the results of experiments, it was indicated that annual grasses, Digitalis sanguinalis and barnyard millet could cut three times during the growing season, perennial grasses, Arundinella hirta, Miscanthus sinensis and Caramagrosfis arundinacea, twice, and annual legumes, Lespedeza striata and Cassia nomame, once. 4. According to the growth characteristics, it might be possible that cattle could be grazed on Lespedeza striata and Cassia nomame grasses from August to September, Digitalis sanguinalis and Barnyard millet, from June to September, and ladino clover, from may to October.
