Two experiments were carried out to improve broiler production. A total of 750 day-old chicks of four domestic meat types and six imported meat types were used in broiler performance test, and a total 1125 day-old chicks of cross-bred (i.e. meat type chicks) were used to select superior cross-bred producing parent lines in crossbreeding experiment. In the broiler perfarmance test; (1) In gain of body weight, and feed conversion, the imported meat types were superior to the domestic meat types. (2) Gross income was calculated based on the deduction of the price of baby chicks and feed cost from total income. Gross income of domestic meat types was higher than imported meat types, in spite of the fact that the growth rate and feed conversion were lower in the domestic types. This have been due to the difference in chick price between two types, because chick price of domestic types was about 30 won lower than that of imported meat types. In the crossbreeding experiment; (1) Chick mortality to eight weeks of age did not seem to be constantly improved by crossbreeding. (2) In gain of body weight to eight weeks of age, the meat type breeds were superior to the other crossbreds. Gains of body weight of crossbreds were about mid-weight between parent stocks. (3) In statistical analysis for combining ability in the growth rate, general combining ability and maternal effect were significant. Consequently it seems to be important to select dam line. (4) In the feed conversion rate there was no significant difference between sire lines, but superiority in feed conversion was in order heavy breeds, dual purpose breeds and egg laying breeds respectively in the dam lines. (5) Gross income of crossbred (heavy breeds male × dual purpose breeds female) were higher than the other breeds. This have been due to a difference of chick price between breeds. (6) It seems to be possible to utilize the male from commercial chick of meat type, because there was no significant difference between sire lines.
