During the period from 1957 to 1961 a trial dairying was conducted at Chunchon Agricultual College Experimental Stock Farm with 1 head of average-producing dairy cowl Tambo(0.245 acre)of forage field and those incidental facilities in order to investigate on the earnings of dairy farming and find out the more profitable way of dairy in this country. The results are Summarized as follows: (1) It has been found that a head of dairy cow with average-producing ability secures Hw. 475,975 of net income annually. Which approximatoly amounts to the annual income of a lower grade salaryman. (2) The total amount of capital invested in this single head dairying was HW. 1,820,000, this figure is roughly equal to the whole property of an ordinary Korean farm. From the fact that, with the same amount of capital, the dairying secures HW. 475,975 of annual income while the ordinary farm dose only HW. 412.237, a conclusion can be derived that the one is more profitable than the other by 15%. (3) The labor income in this trial dairying was averaged HW 192.68 per hour, which is 11.1% larger figue compared with the General farming labour income of HW. 91.27 per hour. If the hired labor could be replaced with ones own labor the annual income could be increased by 31.3% (4) One of the difficulties in attempting the dairying enterprise is the fact that it needs comparatively large amount of capital. As mentioned in the foregoing paragraphs a single head dairying need at least the same amount of capital as that invested in running a whole scale crop-farm. It might be said therefore that the dairying enterprise is almost impossible for individual farmers to attempt; only the government subsidy policy could solve the difficulty in developing this field of farming enterprise.
