한국산 우각바리는 Mori (1952)에 의해 Zalanthias azumanus로 최초 보고된 이후, Plectranthias kelloggi azumanus 또는 Plectranthias kelloggi로 사용되고 있으며, 아직까지 분류학적 실체가 불명확한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 2008년부터 2024년까지 제주도 주변해역에서 저인망 어선으로 채집된 총 5마리의 우각바리 (63.3~73.2 mm SL)를 대상으로 형태 분석을 실시하고, 선행 연구와 비교하였다. 우리 표본은 체측 중앙부를 훨씬 넘는 위치까지 이르는 붉은 횡대 반문, 측선 아래 비늘 1~2장까지 이르는 붉은 안장형 반문을 가지는 점에서 Zalanthias azumanus로 확인되었다. Zalanthias kelloggi는 하와이, 황제해산 등 중부태평양에 분포하는 반면, Zalanthias azumanus는 일본, 대만, 베트남, 호주 등 서태평양에 분포하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이러한 형태 및 분포 특성에 근거해 한국산 우각바리의 학명을 Zalanthias azumanus로 변경할 것을 제안한다.

A total of five individuals of azuma perchlet (63.3~73.2 mm SL), collected from Jeju-do Island between 2008 and 2024, were re-described for clarifying their taxonomic status. Our specimens were confirmed to be Zalanthias azumanus, not Zalanthias kelloggi, in having a wide red bar from the dorsal fin to 2~3 scale rows above the abdomen (vs. a red wedge-shaped marking on the upper half of the posterior body in Z. kelloggi) and a 3~5 scale-wide dark grey to red saddle on the caudal peduncle from the uppermost scale to 1~2 scales below the lateral line (vs. 5~6 scale-wide red saddle from the uppermost scale to the lateral line in Z. kelloggi). Therefore, we suggest that the scientific name of azuma perchlet in Korea be changed to Z. azumanus.
