도널드 트럼프가 2024년에 미국 대통령으로 다시 선출되면서 미국 민주주의만이 아니라 세계 민주주의까지 위기에 처했다. 그는 대통령 선거에 처음 출마했던 2016년부터 지금까지 민주주의를 파괴하는 급진적 권위주의를 표방해 왔다. 그런데도 MZ 세대의 많은 청년들은 트럼프를 지지하며 백인우월주의와 자민족중심주의를 신조로 삼는 MAGA의 주축을 이루고 있다. 현재 MAGA의 구성원들은 세계적 극우 연대를 꿈꾸면서 한국 청년들과도 소통하고 있다. 한국에서도 2025년 대통령 선거를 치르면서 2030 청년 남성들이 독재정권에 대한 비판의식이 약하고 극우 성향이 강하다는 것이 드러났다. 그래서 이 글은, 왜 MZ 세대가 독재자 행보를 하는 트럼프를 지지하게 되었는지를 추적하며, 특히 소셜미디어에서 청년들이 사용하는 방법과 지향점에 기초하여 그 접점을 찾는다. 청년 세대가 인터넷 플랫폼에서 사용하는 대화법은 조롱과 역설이다. 그로 인해 은유적 수사를 즐기는 풍자 문화가 사이버 공간에서 창출된다. 이들은 조롱의 효과를 증폭하기 위해, 반기득권 감성과 가해자 지목 문화도 도입한다. 이 글은 그와 유사한 측면이 한국 청년들 사이에서도 나타나며 그로 인한 정치적 부작용도 심각하다는 점에서 관련 양상들을 분석한다.
With Donald Trump again elected president of the United States in 2024, not only American democracy but also democracy around the world is in crisis. He has adhered to radical authoritarianism that dies democracy since 2016, when he first ran for president. Nevertheless, many young people of the MZ generation support Trump and form an important axis of MAGA, which uses white supremacy and ethnocentrism as its creed. Currently, members of MAGA are communicating with young Koreans, dreaming of solidarity among far-right groups around the world. During Korea's 2025 presidential election, it became clear that young Korean men in their 20s and 30s also had a weak sense of criticism of the dictatorship and a strong far-right tendency. So this paper traces why the MZ generation came to support Trump, who acted similarly to a strongman. Furthermore, I try to find out the interface between radical authoritarianism and young people, especially based on the methods and directions used by them on social media. The methods of dialogue used by the young generation on the Internet platform are ridicule and paradox. As a result, a satirical culture of enjoying metaphorical rhetoric was created in cyberspace. In order to increase the impact of ridicule on social media, they bring out the sensitivity of resisting vested interests and devise a culture that points to perpetrators. Similar aspects are also appearing among young Koreans, and the resulting political side effects are also serious, so this paper analyzes related aspects.
