연구목적 : 본 연구는 중학생의 공감 수준이 학교폭력 가해 행동에 미치는 영향에서 공동체 의식과 또래 관계의 순차 매개효과를 확인하였다 방법 : 한국 육아정책연구소에서 실시한 ‘한국아동패널’의 15차(2022년) 자료를 활용하여 SPSS 28.0 및 Process Macro 4.2 프로그램을 활용하여 기술통계, 상관관계, 매개효과, 순차 매개효과 분석을 수행하였다. 결과 : 첫째, 공감 수준과 학교폭력 가해 행동의 관계에서 공동체 의식과 또래 관계의 개별 매개효과는 통계적으로 유의했다. 둘째, 공감 수준과 학교폭력 가해 행동의 관계에서 공동체 의식과 또래 관계의 순차 매개효과도 유의했다. 즉, 공감 수준이 높을수록 공동체 의식이 증가하여 또래 관계가 더욱 원만해짐으로써 학교폭력 가해 행동 빈도가 낮아지는 것을 확인하였다. 결론 : 현재 날로 심각해지는 중학생의 학교폭력 예방을 위해 공감 수준 증진을 토대로 학교 공동체 구성원으로서의 소속감을 고취하여 또래와의 관계를 원만하게 유지할 수 있도록 돕기 위한 중재 및 개입 방안의 필요성을 제안하였다.

Objective: This study examines the sequential mediating effects of sense of community and peer relationships on the influence of empathy on school violence perpetration among middle school students. Methods: Using data from the 15th Panel Study of Korean Children (2022) conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education, descriptive statistics, correlations, mediating effects, and sequential mediating effects were analyzed using SPSS 28.0 and Process Macro 4.2. Results: First, sense of community and peer relationships significantly mediate the association between empathy and school violence. Second, there are significant sequential mediating effects of sense of community and peer relationships. When students exhibit higher empathy, this leads to a greater sense of community, which in turn improves peer relationship and ultimately reduces school violence. Conclusions: This study highlights the need for intervention programs that promote empathy to help middle school students develop a sense of belonging within the school community and maintain healthy peer relationships, which in turn ultimately aims to prevent the increasing problem of school violence.
