이 논문에서는 존재론, 인식론, 방법론의 흐름에 따라서 유아라는 존재를 (재)형상화해온 학술적 시선의 변화를 살펴보고서 포스트휴먼 시대의 유아를 새로운 시선으로 만나고자 한다. 먼저 아직 온전히 인간이 아닌 존재로서의 유아를 결핍의 관점에서 규정하고서 개별로 측정, 범주화, 관리하고자 한 근대 발달심리학의 시선을 살펴보고, 이러한 지배담론에 대한 대안으로서 권력 관계와 사회적 담론으로 구성된 유아존재를 해체하고 재개념화 하고자 한 시선을 돌아본다. 이어서 오늘날 자연과학과 사회과학, 자연과 문화, 유아와 성인, 정신과 신체, 이론과 실천 등의 이분법을 극복하고자 하는 관계적 물질주의를 중심으로 포스트휴머니즘 이론을 조명함으로써 유아의 잠재성을 밝히고자 한다. 포스트휴먼 시대를 살아가는 유아들이 교육과정 수행성을 가진 능동적 행위주체로서 물질을 만나 사회적 의미를 지속적으로 함께 엮어 가는 관계성을 이해하려는 노력이 유아들의 ‘얽힌 되기’를 이해하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

This paper reviews (re)figurations of young children, influenced by academic thoughts on ontology, epistemology, and methodology, and to meet posthuman children halfway through a new perspective. Modernist perspectives, rooted deeply in developmental psychology with deficit-oriented views on young children defined as “not fully human” to be measured, categorized, and managed individually, are first reviewed. This study then explores social perspectives to deconstruct and reconceptualize views on young children as constructed by power relations and cultural discourses as alternatives to dominant discourses. Posthuman theories, with particular attention to relational materialism, that endeavor to move beyond dichotomous boundaries between natural science and social science, nature and culture, children and adults, mind and body, or theory and practice are examined to order to shed light on the potential of young children living in the posthuman era. Understanding the ongoing relationality of young children as active agents with curricular performativity who encounter material agency and continuously interweave social meanings is expected to contribute to the (re)configurations of their entangled becomings.
