본 연구는 15년간 운영된 M극장의 공연자료와 전문가 담론을 분석함으로써, 해당 공간이 한국 창작춤 생태계에서 수행해온 예술적 실천, 구조적 운영 전략, 문화정책적 가치를 다층적으로 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 자료는 M극장의 공연 브로슈어, 언론 기사, 평론 및 무용전문가들의 담론을 중심으로 수집하였으며, 질적 분석과 시각화 기법을 병행하여 해석적 분석을 수행하였다. 구체적으로는 전문가 평론 및 기획공연 구성 자료를 바탕으로 귀납적 범주화를 실시하고, 워드클라우드(word cloud) 기법을 통해 주요 키워드와 담론 흐름을 시각적으로 분석하였다. 이를 통해 M극장이 기획공연 중심의 자율 운영체계를 어떻게 형성해 왔는지, 신진 예술가에게 어떤 예술 생애경로를 제공하였는지, 그리고 전문가들이 인식하는 공간의 예술적·사회적 유산 범주는 무엇인지를 다층적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, M극장은 기획공연 중심의 자율운영을 통해 실험성과 창작성을 지속해온 구조적 플랫폼으로 기능하였다. 둘째, 다수 예술가들이 반복적으로 참여하며 예술 생애주기의 주요 경로로 작용하였고, 셋째, 전문가들은 이 공간을 담론 형성, 국제교류, 지역문화 확산을 실현한 문화정책적 거점으로 평가하였다.
This study aims to conduct a multilayered examination of the artistic practices, structural operation strategies, and cultural policy values that have been carried out by M Theater within the ecosystem of Korean creative dance, by analyzing its performance data and expert discourses over the past 15 years. Research materials were collected mainly from performance brochures, news articles, critical reviews, and statements from dance experts. An interpretive analysis was conducted using a combination of qualitative methods and data visualization techniques. Specifically, inductive categorization was applied to expert reviews and curated program materials, and word cloud techniques were used to visually analyze key terms and discourse trends. Through this process, the study explored how M Theater established an autonomous curatorial system, what kinds of artistic career trajectories it offered to emerging artists, and how experts perceived the space's artistic and social legacy. The analysis revealed that, first, M Theater functioned as a structural platform that consistently supported experimentation and creativity through its independently curated performances. Second, the space served as a significant pathway in the artistic life cycle, with many artists participating repeatedly. Third, experts regarded M Theater as a cultural policy hub that facilitated the formation of artistic discourse, international exchange, and regional cultural dissemination.
