이 연구는 신경림의 후기 시집 『낙타』(2008)와 『사진관집 이층』(2014)에 나타난 변화된 민중 개념과 장소의 재현 양상을 분석한다. 신경림의 시에서 민중은 초기 민족문학 담론에서 강조된 역사 변혁의 단일한 주체 개념에서 벗어나, 구체적인 삶의 경험에 뿌리를 둔 다원적이고 맥락화된 개념으로 전환된다. 이러한 인식의 변화는 장소에 대한 재구성으로 이어지는데, 후기 시에서 장소는 더 이상 고정된 역사적·상징적 공간이 아니라, 개인들의 삶과 감정이 복잡하게 얽혀 있는 윤리적 관계망으로 나타난다.
이 연구는 신경림 후기 시의 장소성이 지구적 관계망 속에서 윤리적 주체 형성과 맞물려 연대의 상상력으로 확장되는 과정을 고찰한다. 특히 시 속에서 반복적으로 출현하는 ‘집’과 ‘길’의 장소성은 정주와 이동의 긴장 속에서 재구성되며, 이 과정에서 시적 주체는 고립된 개인이 아니라 타자와의 관계 속에서 정체성을 형성하는 존재로 드러난다. 이때의 장소는 정서적이고 윤리적인 얽힘이 발생하는 관계의 교차점이며, 장소에 대한 감응은 곧 타자에 대한 응답 가능성과 책임의 윤리로 확장된다.
나아가 후기 시에 나타나는 자연재해, 전 지구적 불평등, 신자유주의적 소외에 대한 응시는 인간과 자연, 자본과 소비가 얽힌 복합적인 관계망 속에서 민중의 의미를 다시 질문하게 한다. 신경림은 후기 시를 통해 고통받는 타자의 목소리를 가시화하고, 세계시민주의적 감수성과 돌봄의 윤리를 요청한다. 이러한 시적 실천은 타자에 대한 감응과 관계적 성찰에 기반한 새로운 윤리 공동체를 상상하는 데까지 나아간다. 따라서 신경림의 후기 시는 장소와 주체, 타자와 공동체를 새롭게 사유하고, 관계적 장소성과 윤리적 연대의 가능성을 모색한 문학적 성취로 평가할 수 있다.
This study analyzes the transformed concept of Minjung and the representation of place in Shin Kyung-rim’s later poetry collections, The Camel (2008) and The Second Floor of the Photo Studio (2014). In his poetry, Minjung departs from the homogeneous subject of historical revolution emphasized in early nationalist literary discourse and is instead reconfigured as a pluralistic and context-sensitive concept grounded in the lived experiences of individuals. This shift in perception leads to a reconstitution of place, which in his later works no longer appears as a fixed historical or symbolic space, but rather as an ethical network interwoven with personal lives and affective experiences.
This study examines how the spatiality in Shin Kyung-rim’s later poetry expands into an imaginative vision of solidarity, shaped by global relational networks and the formation of ethical subjectivity. In particular, the recurring spatial motifs of “home” and “road” are restructured through the tension between settlement and movement, revealing the poetic subject as a relational being rather than an isolated individual. In this context, place becomes a point of emotional and ethical entanglement, where responsiveness to place extends into an ethics of responsibility toward the other.
Furthermore, the poet’s engagement with natural disasters, global inequality, and neoliberal alienation invites a renewed inquiry into the meaning of Minjung within a complex web of relations among humans and nature, capital and consumption. Through these poems, Shin Kyung-rim gives voice to the suffering other and calls for a cosmopolitan sensibility and a practical ethics of care. Such poetic practice extends toward imagining a new ethical community grounded in responsiveness and relational reflection. Thus, Shin’s later poetry can be seen as a literary endeavor that rethinks place and subjectivity, the other and community, and seeks to explore the possibility of relational spatiality and ethical solidarity.
