본 연구는 질 들뢰즈(Gilles Louis Rene Deleuze)와 피에르-펠릭스 가타리(Pierre-Felix Guattari)가 제시한 리좀 이론을 활용하여 기독교 복음을 중심으로 현대 사회의 급변하는 환경 및 현대인들의 요구를 반영한 교회 건축 및 공간의 구성 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 여의도순복음교회의 국장급 목회자 1인(A 목사)과 아트교회 담임 목회자(B 목사)를 대상으로 반구조화된(semi-structured) 질문을 이용한 심층 면담을 진행하였고, 질적 분석 프로그램인 NVivo11을 사용하여 심층 면담의 내용을 분석하였다. A 목사와 B 목사와의 심층 면담을 분석한 결과 여의도순복음교회와 아트교회는 교회의 정체성에 대한 인식에 있어서는 공유하였지만 이를 교회의 공간 구조를 통해 구현하는 방법에 있어서는 극명한 대조를 보였다. 이는 종교개혁의 전통을 따라 말씀(설교) 사역(the Text)에 집중하는 목회와 현대 사회와의 소통을 통해 선교 사역(the Context)에 보다 초점을 맞추는 목회로 구분되는 모습이다. 하지만 여의도순복음교회 역시 기독교 복음을 중심으로 현대 사회 및 지역 공동체와 소통하기 위한 공공성에 대한 고민을 공간의 구성을 통해 드러내려는 관점을 견지하였고, 아트교회는 보다 효과적으로 그러한 공공성을 구현할 수 있는 구조를 갖추기 위해 노력하는 모습을 보였다. 향후 한국 교회는 기독교 복음에 뿌리를 내린 교회의 목회철학과 비전을 교회 건축 및 공간 구성에 반영해야 하며, 차분하게 지역사회를 수용할 수 있는 환대의 공간으로 구성해야 할 것이다. 이는 기독교 복음의 확고한 기반과 더불어 시대적 요구 및 지역사회 구성원의 필요에 대한 성찰을 요구하는 과업이다.

This study aims to propose a plan for church architecture and spatial configuration that reflects the rapidly changing environment of contemporary society and the needs of individuals today, grounded in the message of the Gospel. To this end, the study draws on the rhizome theory proposed by Gilles Louis Rene Deleuze and Pierre-Felix Guattari. In pursuit of this goal, in-depth interviews were conducted using semi-structured questions with an executive-level pastor (Pastor A) from Yoido Full Gospel Church and the senior pastor (Pastor B) of Art Church. The interview data were analyzed using the qualitative analysis software NVivo 11. The analysis of interviews with Pastors A and B revealed that, while both churches share a common understanding of the church’s identity, they differ significantly in how that identity is embodied in their spatial structures. This contrast reflects two distinct approaches to ministry: one that emphasizes the Word (preaching), aligning with the tradition of the Reformation, and the other that places greater emphasis on engaging with contemporary society through mission work (the Context). Nevertheless, Yoido Full Gospel Church has also sought to foster public engagement through spatial design, aiming to communicate with modern society and the local community alignment with the Gospel. In contrast, Art Church has actively pursued a spatial structure that more effectively facilitates such engagement.
