본 연구는 세종학당 기본 한국어 교육과정에서 사용되고 있는 교재들의 실제 사용현황과 세종학당 관계자의 인식을 분석함으로써, 교재 개선을 위한 구체적 방향을 제안하는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 오프라인, 온라인, 메타버스 세종학당에서 활동 중인 학당 관계자를 대상으로 심층면접과 설문조사를 실시하였다. 질적 접근을 통해 관계자들의 실제 경험과 수업 운영상의 요구를 심층적으로 파악하고, 양적 조사인 설문조사에서는 “세종한국어”, “세종학당 한국어”, “세종학당 실용 한국어”를 중심으로 응답자들의 교재에 대한 만족도, 사용상의 어려움, 보완 요구 등을 수집하였다. 연구 결과, 응답자들은 교재의 단계별 구성과 체계성, 편의성에 대해서는 대체로 긍정적인 반응을 보였으나, 실생활 예문의 부족, 문법·어휘 설명의 불충분, 연습 활동의 제한성, 구매의 어려움 등을 공통적인 문제점으로 지적하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 단기적 개선 방안으로 예문 및 활동 보완, 교사용 가이드라인 제공을 제시하였고, 장기적으로는 학습자 중심의 교재 설계, 교재 통합 및 모듈화, 디지털 환경을 고려한 교재 보급 체계 구축의 필요성을 강조하였다. 본 연구는 실제 교육 현장의 의견을 바탕으로 세종학당 기본 한국어 교육과정 교재의 사용성과 개선 방향을 구체적으로 도출하였다는 점에서 의의를 지니며, 향후 세종학당 교재의 개선과 개발에 유용한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study aims to propose concrete directions for improving Korean language textbooks currently used in King Sejong Institute's Korean language curriculum by analyzing their actual usage and the perceptions of instructors and administrators. To this end, in-depth interviews and surveys were conducted with individuals involved in offline, online, and metaverse-based King Sejong Institutes. Through a qualitative approach, the study explored participants’ real experiences and instructional needs in detail, while the quantitative survey focused on three major textbooks―“Sejong Korean”, “King Sejong Institute Korean”, and “King Sejong Institute Practical Korean”―to gather data on satisfaction levels, difficulties in use, and demands for improvement. The findings showed that while respondents generally evaluated the textbooks positively in terms of step-by-step organization, systematic structure, and user-friendliness, they also commonly pointed out issues such as the lack of real-life example sentences, insufficient explanations of grammar and vocabulary, limited practice activities, and difficulties in textbook acquisition. Based on these results, the study proposes short-term improvements including the supplementation of example sentences and practice activities, as well as the provision of practical teaching guidelines. In the long term, the study emphasizes the need for learner-centered textbook design, textbook integration and modularization, and the establishment of a digital distribution system that reflects global teaching contexts. This study is significant in that it presents specific improvement strategies based on feedback from real educational settings and can serve as foundational data for future enhancement and development of King Sejong Institute textbooks.
