2000년 디지털 시대와 밀레니엄 분위기의 새로운 시대가 열리면서 인터넷 기반의 플랫폼 기업들이 생겨나면서 플랫폼을 기반으로 다양한 비지니스 영역들이 개발되었다. 이때 네이버, 다음 등 포털 사이트가 생기면서 새로운 형식의 비지니스 모델이 구축되어 갔다. 이는 디지털 시대의 온라인 기반 사업이 확대되어 개발되고 운영 되고 있다고 본다. 이 시기에 나타난 것이 웹툰 장르라 할 수 있다. 그전까지 만화는 책으로만 보고 있던 시대에서 온라인에서 시간 정소와 상관없이 유저들이 생기면서 다양한 장르의 웹툰이 표현되었다고 본다. 웹툰은 웹(Web)+카툰(Cartoon)이 합쳐진 것으로 웹으로 보는 만화라는 뜻으로 ‘웹툰’은 1999년 무렵 한국에서 처음 만들어졌고 8월쯤 천리안에서 온라인으로 만화를 제공하는 서비스를 제공하기 시작하면서 ‘웹(Web)’과 ‘카툰(Cartoon)’을 합하여 ‘천리안 웹툰’으로 불리여 진 것이 웹툰이라는 말의 시초라 할 수 있다. 그 이후 포털 사이트 주축으로 빠르게 성장하여 25년 현재 네이버, 다음, 투빅스 등 다양한 장르를 제공하는 웹툰 플랫폼이 지속적으로 개발되고 있다. 특히 웹툰을 기반으로 드라마, 영화, 광고, 공연 등 다양한 문화 콘텐츠로 활용 및 응용되어서 참신한 소재를 바탕으로 문화 콘텐츠에서 활용되고 있다. 웹툰 형식의 특징은 온라인에서 접근성이 쉬워 보다 효과적으로 유저층을 확보하는데 좋은 콘텐츠로 활용된다. 스크롤 방식의 전제하에 새로운 포맷으로 기획하는 만화의 형식이다. 스크롤 방식의 만화는 시간의 흐름을 이용할 수 있기 때문에 영화적 표현이 가능하며, 페이드인, 아웃과 같은 효과를 극적으로 사용할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 예전의 만화 형식은 주어진 책 size에 규격화된 사각틀에서 표현되었다면 웹툰 형식은 스크롤에서 내리면서 길이와 상관없이 다양한 연재가 가능한 것이 주목할 만한 특징이라 할 수 있다. 장르도 다양하게 표현하여 로맨스, 일상, 개그, 스릴러, 느와르, 환타지등 탄탄한 시나리오를 바탕으로 흥미와 재미를 제공해 주고 있다. 특히 느와르 장르는 범죄나 사회적 윤리에 반하는 소재를 사용해 어두운 분위기를 부각시키는 작품 형식을 칭하는 장르로 다양한 시놉시스를 기반으로 제작되고 있다. 본 연구는 웹툰 스토리 유형에서 활용되는 느와르 장르의 표현전략과 시각적 연출기법을 제시하고, 느와르 장르의 요소와 시각적 표현 및 대사와 감정 묘사의 표현으로 다양한 실습과 방법론을 통해 시각적 메시지의 활용 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Since then, it has rapidly grown as the main focus of portal sites, and as of 25, a webtoon platform that provides various genres such as Naver, Daum, and Tubix is continuously being developed. In particular, it is used and applied as a variety of cultural contents such as dramas, movies, advertisements, and performances based on webtoons, and is used in cultural contents based on novel materials. The characteristics of the webtoon format are easy to access online and are used as good content to secure a user base more effectively. It is a form of a cartoon that is planned in a new format under the premise of a scrolling method. Scrolling-type cartoons have the advantage of being able to express cinematically because they can use the passage of time, and being able to use effects such as fade-in and out dramatically. If the old cartoon format was expressed in a square frame standardized on a given book size, it is noteworthy that the webtoon format can be serialized in various ways regardless of its length while being lowered from the scroll. The genre is also expressed in various ways, providing interest and fun based on solid scenarios such as romance, everyday life, gag, thriller, noir, and fantasy. In particular, the noir genre is a genre that refers to a work format that highlights a dark atmosphere by using materials that are contrary to crime or social ethics, and is being produced based on various synopsis.
