본 연구는 반려동물 산업의 급성장에 따라 빠르게 확대되는 반려동물 화장품 시장에서 해양 천연자원 유래 성분들의 생리활성 효과를 살펴보고, 이를 활용한 반려동물 화장품의 발전 가능성을 제시하고자 하였다. Table 3에서 요약한 결과와 같이 갈조류인 감태, 다시마, 미역, 모자반, 톳은 항산화, 항염증, 미백 및 피부 재생 효과를 보여 반려동물 피부 건강 개선에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 또한, 게 껍데기에서 유래한 키토산은 항균, 보습, 상처 치유 효과를 보였으며, 오징어와 스피룰리나 유래 성분은 면역 증진과 자외선 보호에 효과적임을 시사했다. 홍조류인 우뭇가사리와 녹조류인 클로렐라는 항산화 및 항염 효과를 통해 피부질환 예방과 개선에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 해수와 머드 성분은 보습과 노폐물 제거에 뛰어난 효과를 나타냈다. 반려동물 화장품에 해양 천연자원 성분을 적용하기 위한 주요 연구 과제로는 반려동물의 피부 특성에 맞춘 해양 천연자원 유래 소재의 안전성과 유효성 검증이 필요하며, 장기 사용에 따른 알레르기 반응 및 독성 평가가 필수적이다. 또한, 종별 피부 구조와 생리적 특성에 맞춘 맞춤형 소재 개발과 지속 가능한 이용을 위한 윤리적 채취, 이용방법 및 환경 보호 방안 마련이 중요하다. 해양 소재의 기능성에 대한 기작 연구와 함께, 실제 제품 적용을 위한 상용화 전략과 다양한 제형 개발을 위한 임상 시험도 필요하다. 현재까지는 반려동물은 화장품을 많이 사용하지 않을 것이라는 인식이 있지만, 반려동물의 외모 관리 및 위생에 대한 관심이 증가함에 따라 반려동물 화장품 사용은 더욱 확대될 것으로 보인다. 현재 국내에서는 해양 천연자원 유래 반려동물 화장품 원료에 대한 연구가 부족하지만, 본 연구를 통해 그 효능과 가치를 확인할 수 있었다. 한국 반려동물 화장품 산업의 경쟁력을 높이고, 지속 가능한 반려동물 산업 발전을 위해 해양 천연자원 활용 방안에 대한 심도 있는 연구와 논의 및 범과 제도 정비는 지금 바로 실행되어야 한다고 판단한다. 이를 위해 원료의 처리와 추출 방법 표준 마련과 공급체계 구축이 병행되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 해양 천연자원 유래 원료의 반려동물 화장품 활용 가능성을 제시하며, 향후 반려동물 피부 건강 및 외모 관리를 위한 새로운 솔루션을 제공할 수 있는 기반을 마련하였다. 이를 통해 관련 연구와 기술 개발을 촉진시키고, 혁신적인 제품 개발로 화장품 업체의 경쟁력을 높이는 한편, 소비자 만족도를 증대시킬 수 있을 것이다. 해조류 활용을 확대함으로써 전 세계적인 기후변화 문제에 능동적으로 대응하며, 한국 반려동물 화장품 시장의 성장과 발전에 기여할 수 있는 자료로 활용되기를 기대해 본다.

The purpose of this review is to analyze the characteristics of 12 selected marine natural resources such as Ecklonia cava, crab shells, kelp, marine mud, Sargassum, sea mustard, spirulina, squid, agar, chlorella, hijiki, and seawater and present its potential as a pet functional cosmetic material. Korea has traditionally used seaweed and seafood for food and health functional food industries, and functional materials extracted from marine natural resources have been actively studied and commercialized in the cosmetics industry due to antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing effects. According to the results of this study, substances derived from marine natural resources are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, immune, moisturizing, wound healing, skin disease improvement, and skin regeneration. It is expected to improve pet skin health by showing various functional effects such as whitening, UV protection, and waste removal. Therefore, the use of pet cosmetics raw materials extracted from marine natural resources is expected to increase the competitiveness of the domestic cosmetics industry and meet the needs of consumers. In addition, it is expected that not only is it an alternative to practice carbon neutrality to increase the use of pet cosmetics made of seaweed, but also product development using by-products left as food will lead to and additional increase in farm income. As a result, it is proposed to expand to empirical research on pet functional cosmetics raw materials extracted from marine natural resources along with clear legal definitions and institutions for pet cosmetics and the development of marine resource mass production technology and supply systems.
