우리 사회는 지금 분열과 갈등으로 몸살을 앓고 있다. 갈등의 양상도 다양화할 뿐만 아니라 점점 더 첨예화되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 학교 교육을 통해 학생들에게 민주시민교육으로서 갈등 해결 능력을 향상시키는 교육이 필요한 것은 자명하다. 이 연구에서는 1) 우리 사회에 나타나는 갈등 양상을 검토하고, 2) 학교에서 갈등해결 능력 향상을 위한 수업 방안으로서 사회과 수업모형을 개발하였다. 개발한 수업모형은 [Word, Idea, Resolve, Examine] 의 영어 철자의 첫 글자를 따서 만든 WIRE모형이다. 그 특징은 다음과 같다. ① Word 단계는 학생들이 갈등 주제를 놓고 자유롭게 자신의 견해를 나누는 단계이다. ② Idea 단계는 대화하며 생각하기를 통해 갈등 해결 방안을 모아보는 단계이다. ③ Resolve 단계는 학생들이 제시한 갈등 해결 방안을 통해 서로 합의하는 단계이다. ④ Examine 단계는 학생들이 겪은 갈등 해결 과정에 대해 반성하는 단계이다. 수업모형을 4단계로 제시하였지만 이를 실제 수업에 적용할 경우에는 다음 6개의 과정, 즉 ① 학습 안내 및 학습 목표 제시 → ② 갈등을 실제적인 상황으로 인식하기 → ③ 갈등과 관련된 생각과 느낌 나누기 → ④ 갈등 해결 방안 수집하기 → ⑤ 갈등 해결 방안 합의하기 → ⑥ 갈등 해결 과정 성찰하기의 과정으로 구체화할 수 있다. 개발된 수업 모형은 다양한 내용으로 수업에 적용될 수 있을 것이다. 개발된 WIRE 수업 모형이 학생들에게 갈등 해결 능력을 향상시키고 성숙한 민주시민의 역량을 키우는데 긍정적인 도움이 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

In this study, 1) the conflict patterns that appear in our society were reviewed, and 2) a social studies teaching model was developed as a teaching method to improve conflict resolution ability in schools. The developed teaching model is a WIRE model made after the first letters of the English spelling of [Word, Idea, Resolve, Examine]. Its characteristics are as follows. ① The Word stage is where students freely express their thoughts on the subject of conflict. The Idea stage is the stage of gathering conflict solutions through conversation and thinking. The Resolve stage is the stage of consensus with each other through the conflict resolution solutions suggested by the students. The Examine stage is a stage of reflection on the conflict resolution process that students have experienced. Although the instructional model is presented in four stages, when applied to the actual class, the following six courses: ① Learning guidance and presentation of learning goals → ② Recognizing conflict as a practical situation → ③ Sharing thoughts and feelings related to conflict → ④ Collecting conflict resolution solutions → ⑤ Agreement on conflict resolution → ⑥ It can be embodied as a process of reflecting on the conflict resolution process. The developed instructional model can be applied to the class with various contents. It is hoped that the developed WIRE class model will be of positive help in improving students' ability to resolve conflicts and developing the capabilities of mature democratic citizens.
