본 원고의 목적은 본 원고의 목적은 ‘다른 것 찾기 (Odd One Out)’라는 게임을 영어 학습 초기 한국 초등학생 대상 초등 영어 수업에서 활용하는 방법을 소개하는 것이다. ‘다른 것 찾기 (Odd One Out)’ 규칙은 특정한 집단에 속하는 단어 여러 개와 이 집단에 속하지 않는 단어 한 개를 나열한 후 이 집단에 속하지 않고 속성이 다른 하나를 찾아내는 영어 말하기 게임이다. 이 활동은 참여 아동들의 영어 단어 실력 향상에 도움을 주는 동시에 이들의 논리적 사고, 분류 능력, 그리고 언어적 이해력과 영어권 문화 이해력 향상에도 큰 도움을 줄 수 있다. "Odd One Out" 활동은 초등 영어 과목 교육과정 전체에서 다양한 목적으로 활용될 수 있으며, 특히 어휘나 개념을 학습할 때 유용하다. 초등교사들이 ‘다른 것 찾기 (Odd One Out)’를 활용할 때 교사가 정하는 수업목적에 따라 ‘다른 것 찾기 (Odd One Out)’를 어떻게 효과적으로 활용할 수 있을 지 소개하였다. 본 원고에서 소개된 ‘다른 것 찾기 (Odd One Out)’를 효과적으로 초등교육 현장에서 초등교사와 초등 학생들이 활용한 경과 과정과 결과에 대해 보고하는 현장연구가 많아지기를 고대한다.

When many Korean primary school students are first introduced to English, teachers often employ Total Physical Response (TPR) method. In TPR, teachers provide verbal instructions to which students respond with physical actions. After engaging in listening-centered TPR activities, students typically become eager to start speaking and are ready to transition to the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method. The activity ‘Odd One Out’ serves as an effective bridge between the listening-focused TPR method and the speaking-focused CLT method. This manuscript details how to utilize the English speaking activity ‘Odd One Out’ for children at the one-word utterance stage. The practicality of this English speaking activity lies in its ability to be used in the initial stages of CLT, thereby moving beyond the TPR stage to achieve various learning objectives. This manuscript explains how to adapt the "Odd One Out" game to meet different learning purposes. When the activities introduced in this manuscript are applied in elementary school classrooms, they can enhance children's English communication skills, logical thinking, classification abilities, linguistic comprehension skills, and intercultural understanding. It would be fruitful if many teachers and future researchers conduct action research studies with Korean primary school students and present the results after applying the ‘Odd One Out’ classroom activities introduced in this manuscript.
