In 1953, a tomb from the Han dynasty was discovered during the construction of a resettlement area in Lei Cheng Uk, Sham Shui Po, on the northwest coast of Kowloon, Hong Kong. Following this discovery, scholars such as Frederick S. Drake, Jao Tsung-I, and James C.Y. Wat have engaged in academic discussions about the dating of the Lei Cheng Uk Han tomb. Their investigations mainly started from archaeological materials, comparing the tomb with other late Eastern Han tombs to identify similarities and differences. However, most of them have seldom researched on the inscriptions found on bricks within the tomb. This paper takes the inscriptions on the Lei Cheng Uk tomb bricks as a point of departure to investigate the construction time of the ancient tomb, in the context of the political turmoil in the Lingnan region during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. The inscription “Pan Yu Da Zhi Li” on the tomb bricks is related to the rebellions led by Liang Long and Kong Zhi in the Ling Nan region during Emperor Ling of Han’s reign. The auspicious messages stamped by the craftsmen on the bricks were intended as prayers for political stability in the region, reflecting the late Han people's abhorrence of war and their longing for peace.
