This historiographic article aims at a review of the “war of interpretation” on the War in Korea from 1950 to 1953 focusing on the ideas upon which have been based various interpretations, i.e., Communism, Anti-Communism, and Anti-Anti-Communism. Consequently, this article attempts to replace the usual categorization of “traditionalism versus revisionism,” which had been developed for the Cold War historiography mainly in the American academic community. This in-depth review leads us to conclude that a more academic detachment is necessary in this war studies. From the time that the war began in Korea in June 1950 by the international Communist leaders to the present, the interpretation of the war has been in the state of political engagement. However, it is now the time for the political dégagement for historicizing rather than politicizing the war in Korea from 1950 to 1953. Historico-politics is not a mere attachment of history and politics but is an incessant academic effort to detach the two.
