이 논문은 신천지와 재림예수교 천국복음회(구인회)의 비교연구를 통해 신천지의 성향과 교리가 신천지보다 10년 먼저 창설된 재림예수교 천국복음전도회와 매우 유사함을 드러냄으로 신천지 교리의 허구성을 드러내고자 한다. 두 단체의 배경을 살펴보면, 재림예수교 천국복음전도회 창시자 구인회는 박태선의 신앙촌에 들어가라는 주관적 계시 체험 통해 신앙촌에 입소하여 전도관 교리를 터득하였으며, 이후에는 유재열의 장막성전에 가서 이단사이비의 교리를 습득하였고, 1973년에재림예수교 천국복음전도회를 설립하여 스스로를 재림예수라고 지칭하였다. 신천지의 창시자 이만희는 또한 주관적 계시 체험 통해 신앙촌에 입소하여 10년간 전도관 교리를 터득하였으며, 그 후 전도관을 탈퇴하고 유재열의 장막성전에서 이단 교리를 습득한 후 1984년에 신천지 예수교 증거장막성전을 창립했다. 이 두 단체의 공통된 성경해석원리는 비유풀이로서, 특정단어에 집착하여 비문맥적이고 비논리적인 성경해석을 하고 있는 데 두 단체의 비유풀이가 일치하고 있다. 재림예수는 육체를 가진 한국 사람이며, 예수의 영이 재림 때에 한 육체에 임하므로 재림주가 되었다는 것도 일치한다. 두 단체의 특정한 교리인 보혜사 성령, 이긴자 교리, 실상교리가 유사하다. 또한 두 집단의 이단적 성향이 매우 유사하다. 자신의 주관적 계시 체험을 신적인 계시와 동일시하고, 자신들이 추종하던 교주의 권위를 훼손하고 자신이 하나님의 특별한 사명자임을 강조한다. 또한 하나님이 자신에게 환상을 통해 책을 주셨고 그 책을 받아먹었다고 주장하고, 예수의 영이 자신의 육체에 들어왔다고 확신하며 마침내 자신을 재림예수로 주장하며 자신을 신격화하는 데까지 나아간다. 이 연구를 통해 알 수 있는 것은 천국복음전도회의 교리를 신천지가 유사하게 사용하고 있다는 점이다. 마지막으로 신천지와 천국복음전도회의 이단적 사상에 대하여 개혁신학적 입장에서 비판을 하였다.

This study compares the tendencies and doctrines of Shincheonji and the Second Adventist Church of the Gospel of God's Kingdom (SAJC) to demonstrate that what Shincheonji teaches is essentially congruent with what the SAJC teaches. Both groups interpret the Bible in a figurative, non-contextual, and illogical manner. Their figurative interpretations of major passages are predominantly congruent. They both claim that the Second Coming of Jesus occurred in Korea in a physical body and insist that the Second Coming of Jesus came as the Spirit of Jesus into their bodies. They also assert that they are the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, and the Overcomer of the book of Revelation, having fulfilled the doctrine of reality. Additionally, the heretical tendencies of the two groups are similar. Both believe their subjective experiences of revelation to be divine. They derogate the authority of the religious leaders they followed and then attempt to claim that they are the only messengers of God, asserting that they received religious texts through visionary experiences. Both groups are convinced that the spirit of Jesus has entered their bodies, leading them to deify themselves as the Second Coming of Jesus. This study shows that Shincheonji's teachings are similar to those of SAJC, which was founded ten years before Shincheonji. Finally, this study criticizes the heretical ideas of Shincheonji and SAJC based on a Reformed theological framework.
