마르쿠제는 현대사회를 첨단 기술과 자본의 논리로 무장한 전체주의로 규정한다. 기술과 자본은 제도적 틀을 갖추면서 개인의 욕구와 의식을 통제, 억압한다. 쾌락의 원리는 현실원칙에 질식돼 버리며 사랑과 생명의 힘은 실종된다. 복지사회를 표방하는 선진사회를 지탱하는 힘은 전쟁과 파괴를 지원하는 무기산업의 번성에 있다. 인공지능은 정보의 편중현상을 극단화시키며, 이로 인한 기술 권력화가 우려된다. 반생명적이고 권력화된 일상을 회복시킬 수 있는 방법은 연대성이다. 우선 ①폭력적 현실을 이해하고 뜻을 공유한 이들의 자유로운 “연대”, ②자본과 권력에 의해 배제된 “소수자들과의 연대”, ③ 민주주의와 가치를 실현하기 위한 “공동체 살리기 연대”의 중요성이다. 비폭력의 가치는 삶의 생명성에 있다. 개인의 존재가치 역시 생명체로서의 활력에 있다. 사회는 다양한 생명의 연합으로서 그 자체가 거대한 생명체이다. 그런 의미에서 사회의 모든 구성원들이 평화롭게 공존할 수 있는 환경을 구축하는 일이 자유롭고 이상적인 사회의 핵심요소이다.

Marcuse defines modern society as totalitarianism armed with advanced technology and the logic of capital. Technology and capital establish an institutional framework to control and suppress individual desires and consciousness. The pleasure principle is suffocated by the reality principle, and the power of love and life disappears. The power that supports an advanced society which advocates a welfare society lies in the prosperity of the weapons industry that supports war and destruction. Artificial intelligence is accelerating the phenomenon of information concentration, which raises concerns about technological power. The way to restore anti-life and empowered daily life is solidarity. First of all, the importance of ① free "solidarity" between those who understand the violent reality and share the same ideas, ② "solidarity with minorities" excluded by capital and power, and ③ "solidarity to save the community" to realize democracy and values. The value of nonviolence lies in the vitality of life. The value of an individual's existence also lies in his or her vitality as a living organism. Society is a union of various life forms and is itself a gigantic living organism. In that sense, building an environment where all members of society can coexist peacefully is a key element of a free and ideal society.
