In this article, I share my pedagogical approach and personal philosophy as a dance educator, with reference to an online workshop, Move & Creative, the 2021 Teaching Artist Workshop of Sangmyung University's Center for Arts and Culture Education on 28th May 2021. My belief is that the crucial element is the process of learning. Any acquisition of skill is an outcome of the learning process. My approach is to provide a learning experience in which my students can enjoy and appreciate dance in a fun, non-threatening and non-competitive environment. I see dance and movement education very much as a creative process for children, giving them the opportunity to explore their innate creativity and to have fun making their own dances. I have provided a lesson plan that serves as a framework for dance educators and artists to help foster in-depth experimenting without stifling spontaneity and expression. I have also drawn on the experiences of renowned dance and movement educators to add on to the teaching tips that I hope will be useful to budding teachers of creative dance.
