In this study, air quality characteristics in Jeollanam-do were spatially analyzed to determine the current status over a four-year period between 2020 and 2023, using data from air quality monitoring networks in Air Korea maintained by the Korea Environment Corporation. In the regional sectors of fine-dust warnings in Jeollanam-do, SO2, NO2, and CO levels were relatively high in the eastern region due to the influence of national industrial complexes and steel mills, while the comprehensive air quality index (CAI) was rated “Good”. O3 levels were relatively high in the western region and CAI was classified as having “Moderate”. PM-10 and PM-2.5 levels were also relatively high in the western region. The annual average PM-10 and PM-2.5 values were classified as “Good-to-Moderate”, while the maximum PM-2.5 level was partially considered to be “Unhealthy” in some cases. Therefore, it is believed that a strategic management plan according to regional spatial characteristics is required to improve air quality in Jeollanam-do. The results of this study are also expected to be used as baseline data to better understand the patterns and drivers of air pollution in fine-dust warning sectors.
