‘꿈’은 시공을 넘나드는 무한히 자유로운 공간이자 어떤 것도 행하고 성취할 수 있는 가능성의 공간으로서, 꿈을 통해 자신이 처한 현실을 드러낼 수도 있고 원하는 바를 이룰 수도 있으며 앞으로의 일을 내다볼 수도 있다. 「기몽」은 꿈의 이러한 속성을 활용해 작자 자신의 욕망과 지향을 드러내고 있는 추구의 서사라고 할 수 있다.

「기몽」의 작자는 탄핵상소로 말미암아 다시 낙척한 신세로 돌아오지만, 이는 전적으로 추락을 의미하는 것만은 아니다. 뱃속에 들이부어진 먹즙은 작자의 지향이 어디에 있는지를 보여주는 구체적인 증거물이라 할 수 있거니와, 문장왕국으로부터는 추방되었으나 그의 꿈은 여전히 끝나지 않고 계속될 것임을 시사한다.

His political career faced difficulties, and he was often criticized as a person captivated by the ambition for success. Nevertheless, he remained a figure who, in any situation, did not compromise his thoughts, expressed his convictions, and actively confronted challenges.
“Gimong” can be seen as a literary manifestation of the author's desire to receive recognition for his talents, which were not properly acknowledged in reality during a particularly dark period when he lost his social foundation as a bureaucrat-literatus. Additionally, through the world of dreams, the narrative symbolically expresses the existence of constant opposition and struggles in the real world.
‘Dream’ serves as an infinitely free space transcending time, allowing the possibility of doing anything, achieving goals, revealing one's current reality, and envisioning the future. “Gimong” can be considered a narrative of pursuit, where the author utilizes the attributes of dreams to reveal his desires and orientations.
By using ‘dream,’ the author attempts self-display, the pursuit of recognition, the relaxation of tension, the pursuit of playfulness, and the expression of a positive attitude towards reality. “Gimong” unfolds the desire for self-display and recognition, which may seem awkward in reality, without hesitation, using the concept of ‘dream’ and supporting these aspects with various elements.
Although the author of “Gimong” experiences a decline due to impeachment, it does not solely signify a downfall. The metaphorical evidence of the author's aspirations lies in the ink in his stomach, revealing where his aspirations lie. Despite being expelled from the kingdom of literati, his dreams continue unabated, indicating their perpetual nature.
