The shampoo and essence containing Laminaria japonica extract were applied routinely for 3 months on 30 people who were suspected of hair loss. The condition of the scalp before and after applying sampoo was observed using a dermascope, and the morphological characteristics of the hair were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The shampoo and essence used in this study were found to have a high conditioning effect. The scalp and hair of the test group that used shampoo and essence continuously for 3 months were found to be clean. Dermascopic observation showed that the scalp before the experiment had redness, keratinization, and dandruff. After using shampoo and essence, a clean and milky scalp was observed. SEM studies showed that the surface of the hair after using shampoo and essence for 3 months was clean with relatively fewer scales lifted or broken than the hair before using the shampoo. The present study found that scalp hair became slightly thicker after using shampoo and essence. However, this such observation may be influenced by whether the sample was accurately collected from the hair loss area of the test subject's scalp.
