이 연구는 실버 센류 모음집 『사랑인 줄 알았는데 부정맥』이 우리나라 독자들 사이에서 인기를 얻은 문화 현상에 주목했다. 우리나라도 아닌 일본의, 전문적이지도 않은 아마추어(amateur) 작가들이, 인생의 황혼기에 접어든 평범한 노인들의 일상을 소재로 쓴 짧은 정형시가 이례적인 호응을 얻고 있는 현상이 문학교육에 시사하는 바를 탐색하고자 했다. ‘5/7/5’의 총 17개 음으로 구성된 일본의 전통 시가인 센류는 지금까지도 대중적으로 사랑을 받고 있다. 샐러리맨 센류 공모전, 실버 센류 공모전 등 다양한 공모전이 개최되고 있고 만화나 애니메이션 등 대중문화 콘텐츠에도 종종 등장한다. 실버 센류는 “노년 세대의 생활상과 마음을 더욱 리얼하게 전하고 싶다”는 취지에서 탄생한 장르로, 매년 실버 센류 공모전이 열리고 대중적인 공감을 얻은 작품들이 입선작으로 선정된다. 아마추어 작가들이 실버 센류를 쓰고 대중들이 즐겨 읽는 현상은 문학 소통의 측면에서 다음과 같은 특성을 지닌다. (1) 실버 센류는 노년의 삶에 대한 독자들의 공감적 경험을 확장함으로써 세대 간 소통을 가능하게 한다. (2) 전통적인 장르인 센류가 현재의 독자들에 의해 지속적으로 창작되고 향유되는 현상에서 시대 간 소통의 가능성과 짧은 정형시 형식의 현재적 가치를 확인할 수 있다. (3) 아마추어 작가들이 문학 창작과 향유에 적극적으로 참여함으로써 전문적인 작가 중심의 문학장이 재편될 수 있음을 보여 준다. 앞으로 문학교육은 아마추어 작가들이 참여하는 사회적·문화적 소통과 공감의 장을 어떻게 확장할 것인가에 대한 논의를 심화해 나가야 할 것이다.

This study focuses on the phenomenon of the popularity of Silver Senryu collections among readers in Korea. This study examines the implications for literary education of the unusual popularity of short formal poems written by amateur, non-professional writers in Japan, not Korea, about the daily lives of ordinary elderly people in the twilight of their lives. Senryu, a traditional Japanese poetry consisting of a total of 17 "5/7/5" notes, is still popular with the public. Various contests are held, such as the Salaryman Senryu Contest and the Silver Senryu Contest, and it often appears in pop culture content such as comics and animation. Silver Senryu is a genre that was created with the purpose of "conveying the lifestyle and feelings of the older generation more realistically". A Silver Senryu contest is held every year, and the works that gain public sympathy become the winning works. The phenomenon of amateur writers writing Silver Senryu and the public enjoying them has the following characteristics in terms of literary communication. (1) Silver Senryu makes communication between generations possible by broadening the readers' empathetic experience of life in old age. (2) The possibility of communication between epochs and the current value of the short form of formal poetry can be confirmed by the phenomenon that Senryu, a traditional genre, continues to be created and enjoyed by today's readers. (3) It shows that the professional author-centered literary field can be reshaped by the active participation of amateur writers in the creation and enjoyment of literature. In the future, literary education will have to discuss how to expand the space of social and cultural communication and empathy in which amateur writers participate.
