본 연구에서는 중학생의 학업스트레스와 스마트폰 과의존의 관계에서 우울의 매개효과가 또래애착에 의해 조절되는지를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 육아정책연구소의 한국아동패널 14차 2021년 자료를 사용하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 중학교 1학년 1,348명이며, 학업스트레스, 우울, 또래애착, 스마트폰 중독 척도를 활용하였다. SPSS 26.0을 활용하여 신뢰도와 상관계수 등을 산출하였으며, Process macro 4.2 프로그램을 활용하여 매개효과, 조절효과, 조절된 매개효과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중학생의 학업스트레스와 스마트폰 과의존의 관계에서 우울은 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 학업스트레스가 높을수록 우울이 증가하여 스마트폰 과의존 위험성이 커지는 것을 확인하였다. 둘째, 우울과 스마트폰 과의존의 관계에서 또래애착은 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로, 우울이 높을수록 스마트폰 과의존이 높아지는데, 또래애착이 이러한 경향성을 더욱 증폭시키는 역할을 하였다. 셋째, 중학생의 학업스트레스가 우울을 매개하여 스마트폰 과의존에 미치는 영향은 또래애착에 의해 조절되었다. 구체적으로, 학업스트레스가 높을수록 우울이 증가하고, 증가된 우울이 스마트폰 과의존을 높이는데, 또래애착이 이러한 매개효과를 증폭하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 본 연구는 중학생의 스마트폰 과의존에 영향을 미치는 개인의 심리 변인 간 인과 경로 및 이 경로가 관계 변인에 따라 달라지는 양상을 밝혔다는 데 그 의의가 있다.

This study investigated whether peer attachment moderates the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between academic stress and smartphone overdependence in middle school students. Data from the 2021 Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) involving 1,348 first-year middle school students were utilized in this study. The SPSS PROCESS macro version 4.0 software was employed to analyze the mediating (Model 4), moderating (Model 1), and moderated mediating effect (Model 14). First, depression mediated the relationship between academic stress and smartphone overdependence in middle school students. In other words, higher academic stress increased depression, which in turn led to greater smartphone overdependence. Second, the impact of depression on smartphone overdependence was moderated by peer attachment. In particular, while depression had a positive effect on smartphone overdependence, peer attachment intensified this effect. Finally, the indirect effect of academic stress on smartphone overdependence through depression was moderated by peer attachment. Specifically, the findings indicated that higher levels of academic stress led to increased depression, which subsequently heightened smartphone overdependence. Furthermore, peer attachment was found to amplify this mediating effect. This study demonstrates how peer attachment moderates the impact of psychological factors on smartphone overdependence in middle school students. It emphasizes the importance of interaction between psychological factors and social relational factor on smartphone overdependence during adolescence.
