The purpose of this study is to design an effective Korean debate class for foreign undergraduate students. To achieve this goal, a stepwise Korean debate class was developed and implemented for advanced foreign undergraduate students. The results indicated that all students perceived an improvement in their Korean language skills as a result of participating in the debate class. Furthermore, the majority of students effectively applied the concepts they learned in a step-by-step manner, demonstrating proficiency in following the debate format and structure. However, several issues were identified. Firstly, the ‘question & answer’ segment of the debate session was not executed effectively. Secondly, some students expressed dissatisfaction with the class materials and the level of difficulty. Therefore, it is necessary to address these concerns by revising and supplementing the materials and adjusting the difficulty level for future debate classes.
