이 연구는 브레이킹의 ‘스포츠화’에 따른 문화 자본적 가치와 춤과 스포츠 간의 문화적 연합이 갖는 시사점을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 문화분석이 적용되었으며 문화이론가들의 문헌을 중심으로 브레이킹의 문화 자본적 측면이 분석되었다. 또한, 비보이의 담화 일부를 부분적으로 발췌해 브레이킹 댄스에 대한 배경적 이해를 돕고자 하였다. 논의된 세부문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, K-브레이킹의 정치·문화적 밈학의 특징은 무엇인가이다. 이는 K-브레이킹이라는 수식어를 중심으로 문화적 영역에서의 밈적 기능들이 논거되었다. 둘째, 춤이 스포츠 제도권에 유입될 때 마주하게 될 과제로는 배틀 문화의 획일화와 경기평가 방식에 대한 문제점들이 조명되었다. 셋째, 브레이킹의 ‘스포츠화’에 따른 문화 자본적 가치와 시사점이 탐색되었다. ‘스포츠 예술’, 혹은 ‘예술 스포츠’로서 브레이킹과 스포츠 간의 문화적 연합은 브레이킹 문화를 더욱 확장시킬 수 있는 기회가 될 것이다. 물론 이상의 논의들이 스포츠 경기로서 브레이킹 종목의 지속 가능성을 견지하는데 충분하진 않지만 잠재된 문화자본으로서 가치를 뒷받침하는 해석적 지반으로 참조되길 기대해 본다.

This study explores the cultural capital value and the implications of cultural fusion between dance and sports resulting from the sportification of breaking. Utilizing cultural analysis as the research methodology, this research delves into the cultural capital dimensions of breaking, grounded in the works of cultural theorists. Furthermore, excerpts from B-boy discourse were included to facilitate a deeper contextual understanding of breaking dance. The specific issues discussed are as follows. First, the focus is on identifying the political and cultural meme-like features of K-Breaking. The argument revolves around the term ‘K-Breaking’ and its memetic functions within the cultural sphere. Second, the entry of dance into the sports establishment brings forth tasks, notably the uniformity of battle culture and scoring system issues, as breaking integrates with sports frameworks. Third, the study explores the cultural capital value derived from the sportification of breaking and its implications. The cultural fusion of breaking with sports, referred to as either ‘sports art’ or ‘artistic sport,’ is seen as an avenue for broadening the horizons of breaking culture. While the discussions mentioned above may not fully ensure the sustainability of breaking as a sport, they aim to serve as an interpretive basis supporting its value as potential cultural capital.
